Drum Map type functionality

Hi Guys,
What I would like to be able to do is to combine different sources for percussion sounds within the one track. For instance, I'd like to have one multi-out instance of Microtonic and a MuDrum and within one track have different sounds coming from those two, or more devices e.g. the kick from Microtonic, snare & hats from MuDrum and so on. I tried combining Microtonic and MuDrum in a MUX, but found that if the MuDrum is opened from within a MUX, you can't drag samples on to it. Also, I want to be able to route each output to its own rack in the main mixer. Another limitation to that was being limited to 1 octave of sounds as the MuDrum repeats on every octave. Another thing I tried was using a MuDrum and including Microtonic as the 3rd element. The problem with that is I'd have to use a separate instance of Microtonic for each pad in MuDrum. If I could somehow route that 3rd element to one of the Microtonic outs, that would do it. Currently I create separate tracks for each sound and select the percussion source as the target module. Doing this I have complete flexibility of routing and can use single instances of multi-out vsts, so it's almost there. The only drawback is having to flick between tracks to edit each sound.
Hope this makes sense. If there are some power mulab users out there who have a solution to this, it'd be much appreciated.
Thanks,

Yes that's the way.mgiambro wrote:I tried combining Microtonic and MuDrum in a MUX
That's odd, just double-checked that but working fine here. Please elaborate.but found that if the MuDrum is opened from within a MUX, you can't drag samples on to it.
If you're using racks within a MUX they're currently not yet visible in the main rack desk. But there are some notes on the wishlist about that. It would indeed be interesting to have more control what racks are in the rack desk. Also, I want to be able to route each output to its own rack in the main mixer.
You could use a couple of Note Key Rangers and connect each of these to a Note Key Splitter so you can do multiples of 12 notes all within the same MUX, and each individual note line can do a separate thing.Another limitation to that was being limited to 1 octave of sounds as the MuDrum repeats on every octave.
Does this help?

Thanks for you quick response Jo. I'll have a play around later and let you know I get on.
Regarding this:
but found that if the MuDrum is opened from within a MUX, you can't drag samples on to it.
1. Drag over MUX vst to create new track/MUX.
2. Edit the MUX to create a new patch and add a MuDrum.
3. Open the MuDrum from within the MUX vst and try to drag a sample from the browser into one of the elements.
Now, if instead of using the vst, I create the MUX in the modular area via right-click > Add Module > MUX, I can drag samples into the elements. Thinking about it, it makes sense as the vst will mostly be used in other DAWS and therefore doesn't need to integrate with the MuLab browser.
Thanks again for your suggestions and I'll report back with my thoughts once I've tried them out.

I think I have found what is happening. I have MuLab and the MUX vst. I've found that if I use the vst, you can't drag samples onto the MuDrum if it's in the MUX. Steps to re-produce:That's odd, just double-checked that but working fine here. Please elaborate.

Ok, I had a go with this. I wasn't able to get around the 12 sound limitation. I could be doing something wrong. In my MUX the event input routes to 2 note rangers. Note ranger 1 - c1 to b1 (for mudrum 12 pads), note ranger 2 - c2 to g2 (for microtonics 8 outs). Each of these note rangers route to their own note splitter. With this config, mudrum sounds overlap with the microtonic sounds i.e the note splitter for microtonic (c2 - g2) triggers mudrum and microtonic sounds. If I use just one splitter and use say 8 mudrum sounds and 4 microtonic sounds, this works, but then I lose 8 of the outputs. I also tried using 1 note ranger to range from c1 - g2 and routed it to the 2 splitters. This got confusing because the splitter for mudrum followed the note ranger i.e. the last connector from the splitter (note b I think) would trigger the last note of the note ranger, g2 in this case. Like I say, I could be doing something wrong. I realise the permutations here can get very complex.
For me this would be a big plus as my desired workflow would be to combine multiple percussion sources on the one track to build the percussion track and then at the mixing stage split out the percussion track in order to render it as audio and mix/eq etc the percussion parts separately. Ideally doing this by making copies the main pattern track which points the 'percussion mux' and stripping out the parts I don't need in each, leaving separate tracks for kick, snare, hats, congas .. To achieve this now, I suppose I could render each part, create new racks and route each part to its own rack? Just thinking out aloud. As you can probably tell, I haven't yet a settled workflow. If you're using racks within a MUX they're currently not yet visible in the main rack desk. But there are some notes on the wishlist about that. It would indeed be interesting to have more control what racks are in the rack desk. Also, I want to be able to route each output to its own rack in the main mixer.
In any case, I hope you don't take anything I've said here as a criticism, it certainly isn't meant as that. As one developer handling it all, I think you're doing an incredible job.

I'm sorry it's the Note Key/Vel Filter that should be used before the Note Key Splitter. I checked it, that works!mgiambro wrote:Ok, I had a go with this. Perfect! Also, to achieve what I want to do, I don't actually need the capability to route out of the MUX to main mixer racks as I am splitting out the drum track, rendering each part as audio and then routing those audio tracks to their own rack for processing.mutools wrote: I'm sorry it's the Note Key/Vel Filter that should be used before the Note Key Splitter. Thanks. Apologies for the mess. That post was composed after a couple of friday night after-work beers.mutools wrote: NB: I edited your post as the quote-unquotes blocks were not right.
Thanks for your help. I will now leave you in peace
