I'm a bit confused about what's going on with the mdynamicslimiter.
So, for example even in the screenshots on the product page here:

There appears to be 6db of gain reduction, though the output signal isn't hitting the ceiling.
My understanding is that a limiter should begin reducing gain once the ceiling is hit.
Is this doing something different?

It depends on many things. Mainly the knee & mode parameters on the edit screen. Basically it tries to smoothen the response even before the 0dB has been reached.

Oh yeah, that's definitely it. It behaves the way I expect if I pull the knee down to 0%
