Tracktion 5 freezing and "not responding" intermittently

Hey how's it going. I had Tracktion 5.4.2 and it was working very well. Al of a sudden lately I can't work without the software pausing for like 3 seconds or more. When it does do this, it says "not responding" at the top of the window next to the word Tracktion. It happens sometimes when I'm scanning through the tracks, or when I'm moving and/or splitting clips. Sometimes when I'm playing the track, everything will freeze while the audio is still playing, meters and all. When I am working inside of a VST window, it doesn't do this at all. It only happens in the main window. I downgraded to a lower version and I'm still experiencing this. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Hard to work like this.

I'd get Proc Explorer from Sysinternals and run it at the same time, then see what's hogging resources when your Tracktion session freezes.

HvA, I had the same problem. I did search all over. Every forum I could find that had to do with this situation. I even posted here asking for clues.
I emptied my plugin folder and loaded them back in one at a time from an online suggestion...nada
Resplendence has a free latency monitor also in addition to jabe's suggestion to look into Proc Explorer.
What I finally stumbled upon was dis-abling the network adapters in device manager prior to opening Tracktion...voila!
No more freeze up.
Of course you can no longer check any online stuff until you re-enable network, but it's a small price to pay if you're into a project.
Maybe that will work for you as it was VERY frustrating.
I'm all smiles now.

Good Call Metrognome! Disabling the driver worked like a charm. Not sure what the network driver has to do with Tracktion but whatevs. Hope they can fix this bug in the future. Thanks to you and Jabe for the responses

I'm glad I could help.
I don't think it's a problem with T as it's logfile showed no glitches in the timing.
My thoughts, as this 'stuttering' wasn't there for a long time, then, of a sudden, it was.
Perhaps it was a win update that triggered something.
My laptop (win8.1) didn't suffer this problem.
Desktop (win7) was where I encountered it.

It's likely to be DPCs. The wifi driver, and a couple of the other "usual" drivers in windows don't play well with audio software. There's a decent write up in the FAQs for Latency Monitor;

This is interesting. I have just tried to start using Tracktion again and it has suddenly frozen on me four times in a row, no plugins just two audio tracks being played back and occasionally split. It's funny that network devices are mentioned because when this happens I see a notification that I am suddenly disconnected.

This is in linux though. Why would Tracktion be having any kind of interaction with the network driver? I've never come across this in any other application before.

I'm having the exact same problem with Tracktion 5 freezing and reporting "not responding" in the upper left hand corner of my screen. This occurs upon launching the program when it is loading a project edit. Eventually the edit does come up, but the wait time is way too long. The problem happens when trying to switch between edit tabs on top as well as the Settings Tab. Once it does load an edit, audio recordings work fine. I'm running on Win 7 Pro, Lenovo W540 with an I7 processor and 16 mb of ram. I've tried disabling wireless adapter and hard wire adapter, as well as bluetooth and smart card reader adapters, but no luck. Anyone have any ideas? Very frustrating...Thks!!

Hi rockdaddy.
Another thing you could try would be to, in addition to disabling aforementioned adapters,
also disable any anti-virus/malware/auto-updater programs while you're in Tracktion.

If I only knew how to write a batch file to shut off/on all those interrupts in one swoop...aah, life wold be gooder.
