One thing that bugs me - Some of the buttons have backgrounds that show up when activated and some just change color. Shouldn't it be one way or the other for all? I like how it looks with no background.

The preset icon in broswer is ugly tbh...Please consider to change it later ;) All the other icons are just great btw.

Just an idea, the color picker in the inspector could be changed to a pop-up like the histograms. I don't think that's something you need to access often enough for putting it an extra click away to be a problem, and the section adds noise to the gui and takes up valuable inspector space.

I disagree, I love it where it is and it's one of the things that make bitwig appealing to me (strangely). I'm forever colouring parts and really enjoy that little colour box :-) (maybe because one of the reasons I switched from logic is because it's dull UI bored me senseless) :)

Now what I really would like to do is be able to double click on a colour to customise it...

Post

Alright. Custom colors is something I've thought about too. Most of the colors in the default palette are a bit loud for me. And disabling the auto coloring of new tracks is something I think I'd like too.

Just a wee thing, what about adding the name box and deactivate control to the title bar? That would save some space, you could just double click the title to get the name box to appear.

One kinda weird thing about this is that for some stuff bitwig shows the kind of thing thats selected in the title bar rather than the name of the thing itself. For example arranger clips will say "arranger clip" in the the title rather than the name of the clip, and then the name of the clip will be shown in the text box. Maybe this was something they decided was needed for clarity but I can't really think of why. Seems to me that you can tell what type of selection you have made by the type of info present in the inspector since they all have different views, as well as the actual selection displayed in the gui.

This would save a few lines of space which would mean a little less scrolling on smaller screens which is nice.
+1 Excellent observation ogopogo.. thanks for sharing. I hope the dev team sees this and agrees with you.

What's more; add a drum chain (fill a drum cell with a high hat or something) and the Drum chain icon appears out of nothing in yellow and then disappears altogether (rather than change to white for example) when you move to another cell in the drum machine!! This is a unique behavior, and thus very unclear, as to the intended message.

Post

Thanks, c-wave, and yes that chain icon behavior is weird. I reported that as a bug when it first showed up but Dom said it was intentional.

I know.. I got similar response. I guess DOM should read the book "Don't make me think" on U/X.. seriously.
Edit:
Having said that I don't think that was fair as the rest of the U/X in Bitwig is superb.. Only this is a glaring exception.

Yes please ...
And while they are at it, maybe thay can get the piano roll in the sampler device to light up as well... I can't think of anywhere more frustrating to get lost than in a sampler without key representation... So painful at times :)

Post

^Yeah I agree, and also there is no representation for the editor in drum mode either. But just as a reminder for these sorts of things that are clear frs we should sent them in to support. I put mockups in this thread mainly because I don't know if they are worth bothering the devs over.

ok this has nothing to do with the inspector. Sorry about that, dont want to hijack this.

I made a topic about this before:
http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... 3#p6028113

But a maschine like pianoroll? Because you can now color your pads it would be usefull IMHO that the notes in the pianoroll also take those colors. My example is a geist like color scheme because that,s how i like to colorize... :P
Because i love color coding my tracks and sounds. (when loaded in you see right away wahts what)
And that you can see the note names IN your notenames.!!! (that,s a big wish for me!!   )
Already send it to techsupport about the notenames in the notes. And its on the wishlist! hooray for that!
So anybody who is in for that ??? hint hint hint :hihi:
