First want to say how much I love this synth. I bought it after using the beta for a day! Ive read through almost all of this thread since it started and cant remember if there was anything mentioned about the multiply knob in the sequencer and how it works. It seems like any sequence I make, never syncs with my projects. Could very well just be an obvious user error but cant seem to get it. Im mainly using Cubase 8 but, same behaviour in Ableton 9. Sorry if this has been covered but couldnt find anything. Thanks in advance. Great job again on this awesome synth

This is a great synth! I entered in the OSC71 jus 'cause i fell in love after 3 minutes of tweaking. I find it so fast: i have a sound in mind, and i know almost everytime how to put my hands (well, the cursor
) and i get back what i needed in no time. Great.
I have some suggestions to make it even more handy, if you are still listening for suggestions:
1) Effect colors: i see how you want to stay monochrome, but in the effect panel i tweaked too much times the wrong knob. Assigning a color for each effect (say: red for the distortion, green for the reverb, etc) will make everything more clear and immediate.
2) Visualize the mods: a thin line on the envelop sliders, or an added line on the knob that shows were the control will go when modulated will help a lot to see what's going on and how much you're modding the parameter. I don't say that it needs to be dynamic... just to show the range.
3) Key mapping. I'd liked to split the keyboard in two parts, one for each osc... seems that it can't be done? It could be useful if one have to limit the instances of Hive. Also "crossfading" the two osc in a particular key range could be useful. There's some empty space in the UI, over the keyboard that could be filled with some control about this...
4) Osc and effects stack: it could be nice to have, say, OSC1 going thru the whole effect stack, and OSC2 going thru the last one (the reverb, as example). So, having the two OSC as "blocks" like the effects, and being able to move them up and down in the stack could be a nice feature.
Again, many compliments: Hive is a pleasure to use

This is a fun synth! It's getting bought shortly, and I have asked that flat food be slid under the door.
I am using the Hive audio unit in Logic Pro X 10.1.0, OS X 10.10.2.
The first time I opened the presets window, there was just a few entries. A few minutes later, I opened it again, and it was populated with more contributors and many more patches. Perhaps a refresh issue.
I had an interesting thought then - what if the delay in showing the presets was from Hive syncing presets from the u-he cloud? What if there was a 'Shared' folder in the presets window that automatically synced everyone's shared presets from around the world? Probably out of functional scope for an audio unit, but it sure would be fun.
Right, back to bugs.
Right clicking on the Hive logo, the UI size menu appears. Move to the Gamma submenu to open it. It’s showing Brightest. Choose another, darker Gamma setting, then return to Brightest. The UI does not seem to be at its original brightness, so the initial setting indicated in the menu is possibly incorrect.
I have not read the whole thread, but I found the English manual by clicking on the U-He logo...
I got it to lock up, with a UI keyboard key stuck in the down position and a thin, un-Hive like noise coming out. I was driving Hive with Logic's arpeggiator, trying out several arp presets, and had 'PLK Pad Trends MC' patch selected. While playing the Logic arp's 'Complex Chord Groove 07', I was holding 3 or 4 notes on the Macbook keyboard (had Logic's Musical Typing window open), and at first the mod wheel was bouncing up and down, and then the UI locked. Let me know if you'd like the Logic project file. I also had my Korg NanoKontrol plugged in, so I may have created some sort of MIDI mess.
Screenshot:

I found the following in the Mac's 'Console' app (search for 'Hive') from well before the crash, could be normal but why not post it:

2) Wouldn't that would get too complicated if you're modulating the same target from several sources?Parduz wrote: 2) Visualize the mods: a thin line on the envelop sliders, or an added line on the knob that shows were the control will go when modulated will help a lot to see what's going on and how much you're modding the parameter. 3) Interesting suggestions, but maybe a bit too "special" (Hive needs to remain as simple as possible). It's CPU-friendly, so using multiple instances shouldn't be a problem.

Not an expert at all, but in the end you'll have one mod source with the max positive influence, and one with the maximun negative influence... that two numbers are the ones i would like to see on the UI.Howard wrote:2) Wouldn't that would get too complicated if you're modulating the same target from several sources?Parduz wrote: 2) Visualize the mods: a thin line on the envelop sliders, or an added line on the knob that shows were the control will go when modulated will help a lot to see what's going on and how much you're modding the parameter. My old PC topped at 19 instances (and no other VSTs loaded). Having split keyboards i could have halved the hihat/crash and kick/snare/tom dedicated Hive instances. Sure, huge machine dont need that. But i found keyboard zoning a musically interesting feature, not just a way to save CPU.Howard wrote:3) Interesting suggestions, but maybe a bit too "special" (Hive needs to remain as simple as possible). would you be so kind and send this report to support (at) u-he.com ?

The installations of all U-he products does not give me a choice during installation process to choose users on mac os 10.6.8
They always just show one choice for "everyone" on this computer type.
Note that this was not the case some years ago, when it allowed me to choose where to set the permissions.
This also doesn't happen with other synths I've recently installed.
Why is it that the Hive and all other U-he synths I own don't do the permissions correctly on mac os 10.6.8 anymore?

Lovin this synth. Was quite the fun experience makign a song for OSC... can't wait to see what the WiP menu will bring...
Couple ideas, hope its not too late/endgame to voice these lol
1.) I've read a few ppl wanting more control with modulation and in the mod matrix. Not sure if this could be coded but maybe certain functions available in the 'via' tab selection, like an upper/lower damper for modwheel so it only affects the values over or under the halfway point. Maybe something akin to this is already being worked on for the WiP menu.
1b.) I feel like more can be done with the mod matrix. Little touches that could be programmed in, like having 'alternate' on both source and via would produce an 'every fourth note' effect or just a 'four-step alternate' iteration pattern.
2.) More waveforms, possible? I think something like a Res in bazille would be cool.
3.) Is it possible for you guys to let us custom-design our own 'synth engine,' say just an .ini file that could be edited to pick the specific filters, env shapes, etc? I'm guessing this wouldn't work across diff presets for diff ppl.

Another issue observed on Mac. Moving the presets window when it is open causes the background to become less transparent. Occurs regardless of which of the Macbook Pro's GPU's are being used, the intel HD Graphics 3000, or the AMD Radeon 6770 M. 2012 Macbook Pro running Yosemite 10.10.2.

I found a init preset. but would love if there was a button for init for us sound designers
Also option for phase on each oscillator would be nice, where you can select from 0-360 to change where the preset restarts. is there any pulse with knob?

Urs said there were going to be randomise options like randomising presets on start-up. Is that still going to happen? I hope so. I hate hearing the same preset or init preset every time I open a VST.

We had to move from Apple's old (and hopelessly buggy) installer (PackageMaker) to the newer (but slightly obscure) packagebuild and productbuild command line tools. This relieved the permisisons issues, but it's brought on a page in the process that we can't get rid of. Whatever it is, I'm sure now that the problem is that we don't offer an application but a plug-in. Thing is, there is no option ever to install into user space, and with plug-ins there's naturally no option to install to custom locations on MacOS X. I think the tools are just not made for audio plug-ins.mcnoone wrote:The installations of all U-he products does not give me a choice during installation process to choose users on mac os 10.6.8
