Good one, Simon. I think I'm gonna have to try making some waveforms from my violin. You and Jeremy are both pushing the envelope with KS already... But that's the thing about it: the possibilities seem UNLIMITED...

Post

yes, they are... unlimited that is...

I think we will see/hear a bunch of various cool experimental things as people begin to explore it.

Over time, we will stat to hear purposeful control and traditionally musical structures start to emerge.. (though with a novel perspective...)

I think we are in the bacteria phase so far. we have not even gotten to the amoeba phase yet. Just wait until we get into fish, reptiles, birds, mammals etc. :o

I'll try to do a video or two this coming week...

I think of it like an incredible scientific laboratory with infinite possibilities to modify the initial conditions of experiments.

I've spent the last couple of days just running simple straight line images through it and playing with tunings and simple waveforms, mostly with the output module turned off. It's hard enough getting my head round the breadth of possibilities with even the simplest of experiments.

I can see my synths gathering electron dust for the foreseeable future.

Anyone having problems getting the web store to accept the discount code so that you can update KS? I keep getting and invalid coupon even though I'm a registered owner.

Well, we might need more than 1024 pixels of width to achieve what I consider 'traditional' musical structures, but YMMV. For my mitochondrial attempts, I was forced to bounce multiple passes with different setups and edit the sections together. Not the end of the world, of course, but ideally, the entire score could be loaded and paged, or some sort of 'follow actions' could be assigned to each page, choosing a follower image, a loop, a retrograde or some other transformation (each follower potentially with its own tempo, boundary and tuning settings). This could be a very powerful addition to the existing engine. The ability to flexibly modify tuning settings on the fly would be useful, too. Anyway, just getting excited and dreaming a bit. I'm enjoying Kaleidoscope very much so far.

Is 'jtenney' the J. Tenney I think it is?

If you're the one I'm thinking of you're a zombie.

[Sorry, couldn't help myself ;)]

Post

Yeah, maybe I'm the "Thinking Man's Zombie"... Are y'all thinking of Jon Tenney the actor? I get a lot of guff about that guy... ;)

James Tenney the composer was more the direction I was wondering in...

Post

Oh, JAMES... Slipped my mind... Yeah, another John Tenney wannabe... ;) Never heard anyone consider HIM a zombie... Hmmm...

I meant 'raised from the dead' :D

Oh... :hihi: Sorry... I'm embarrassed to say that I didn't know he'd passed. Well, I never claimed to be the most in-touch kinda guy... Just another :violin: ...

Post

Ooh yeah, seems I missed that detail...
