Another possible feature request. When using the "random file" feature cruising around a large folder of images, I find myself going back and forth constantly to see them. Might it be possible to click the random "die" (or do something equivalent) not from the folder structure window but from the screen itself (which after all is slightly visible underneath)? Thanks!

The "New Additions" folder is stuff that I have done more recently during KS development. I have created proprietary methods to make these kind of images. I do them in a similar way to the way I made Galbanum Architecture Waveforms. I do not use any 3rd party tools. I create them all myself.
Think you could tweak/polish the app and release it to the public (free/paid app)?

Here is a dreamy rhodes sequence (AAS Loung Lizard 4) processed with 2 fresh images and a major7 tuning file from the factory library, B2 on a Bus:

nah, just a big head. :D lots of empty space in there... or maybe I have thick skull... I once skiied (wrecked) through the metal piping system of the snowblower for the ski slope and broke the pipe in half with my head, and was perfectly fine... :o true story. I think I was 16 or 17 then though. I doubt very much I am that invincible now. :borg:

Regarding usage, because KS doesn't (yet?) include image editing tools, tuning files editing tools, or waveform editing tools, what would be really great is smoothing the workflow between them.

I don't know if you have ever used Adobe Lightroom but it has lots of clever ways of interacting with external image editing tools and processes. That would be overkill but my point is that having at least an option to switch easily to one or two user specified external editors in each category and back to KS with at least live browser updates would be terrific. Live 'in place' switching would be a dream but very very hard to achieve I'm sure.

I know that's probably a lot of work and a long way down the list though!
[/blue sky mode]

So I see it like we are talking about two topics:

1) continuous editing on a single asset within a third party editor and some kind of link between this and the file in KS. i.e. like Daags requested.

2) importing a bunch of files manually and then needing to refresh the whole resources library.

For 1, maybe we can put a button(s) to do this stuff in the Resource Browser Panels. Maybe two buttons:
a) Open selected in editor (maybe possible)
b) Reload/Update selected (easy)

For 2, maybe we can add this as an action to the Preset Action Panel as described above? This is simple.

For 1, I am not sure if there is some intelligent way to make it happen automatically. Probably the reload/update is needed. (If you are talking about smart updates between adobe products, that is sort of different since adobe makes all these products and therefore can communicate with itself. I am not entirely sure how KS can communicate with editors such as Photoshop, Sound Forge, text-editors etc. Maybe there is a way, but this requires some investigation... and things that require investigation might not happen instantly.)

OK we looked into it a little. We might be able to make some magic happen on these topics...
Terrific :D

You know you can Lock all panels, including the Resource Library Browsers, to stay open until manually closed, right?

But maybe we can have some way to get random selection from the main GUI without even opening the browsers... some kind of key-command or something perhaps...

Post

Well, the thing is that I don't WANT the panel to stay open if I can't see the images underneath it... Yes, a key command for random selection would be great, thanks!

Shift-click on the <> buttons should be an easy solution off the top of my head...

That was a nice Jam with the Lounge Lizard Kaleidoscope, and B2... Simon, Images are pretty and fascinating..

I can't really stand working in Demo mode anymore, so I'll look at a piece of paper in my pocket, look at the ceiling, scratch my arse, drink a coffee, and press the buy buttony

Gawd I have done it now , so I'll be joining the growing hoard of Kaleidoscopian all eyes and ears moving into the bright sonic future..

A question about a feature spelled out in the manual:

"Preset Browser Keyboard Shortcuts
o Left / Right / Up / Down Arrow Keys: moves preset selection one step in the respective direction
o Page-Up / Page-Down: shifts the column display one step left or right"

This does not seem to work in in the scales/waveform and image browsers, at least not in Logic 10.1. Is there a workaround? Thanks.

Okay, I'm just going to throw this out there. I've been demoing Kaleidoscope, and I really love what it does. But it seems like almost everything I produce with it has a very similar sound. And it is fairly expensive for just that one type of sound. I've been watching all of Simon's videos, and of course they are awesome. But again, they all pretty much end up being the same dreamy, ambient spectral smearing drones. I do love that sound, but it's a high price to pay for that sound. And we're talking about an intro price! I've been struggling with this multiple times a day ever since it was released: "Yes I'll buy it." "No, I won't buy it." "Yes, I will." "No, I won't." "Yes." "No."

Is anyone else having the same conflict? Any comments? :(

LOL, thank's Wade - whatever you do, I can assure you there will be no buyers remorse.

Thank's but smearing drones only, really? What about all those experimental sounds and textures also posted in this thread, totally undreamy and atonal, very rhythmical and edgy...

I've thought pretty hard about it, and experimented a few hours with the Kaleidoscope, the things I was getting were nothing like what Simon which were not just dreamy ambient things as I recall granular examples and stutter effects etc, he's always going to be ahead of the curve. But still I have experience with advanced effects tweaking etc. for example worked once I worked with a tremolo effect and multi streams of audio at one point where I got something similar effect that I found in Kaleidoscope, it was really a startling and interesting sound barrage , so I understood then the extent of the power of the Kaleidoscope, the sound I was getting in the past example was a huge and was a result of a very time consuming project(a using hundreds of sequencers in Numerology fed into a bank of 16 synths then into Uhbik T), With Kaleidoscope I achieved similar but more interesting results in less than the 30 min demo time. So it's a very diversified a tool, such that any examples so far posted are only scratching the surface of it's possibilities.. The modulations also seem much smoother if that's what your after.

My main reticence about getting Kaleidoscope was if I had the time in my life to make use for it, and if my computer was up to the task.. It seems with careful tweaking of my setup, and some reduction in my daily work load both these issues are solved..

If you think you will use it enough just get it! If you buy it and it sits on your digital library shelf gathering dust, now that would be a waste.. But I think it is highly addictive so... for me at least it won't be a problem...
