Sorry if I sounded harsh, anybody waiting for Alchemy 2, just go on waiting, the rest move on, we have plenty of great granular tools these days.

My brief ponderings, in a thread that's mainly degenerated into whining over payments, over the brilliant-sounding Omnisphere 2 and where it overlaps with Kaivo in functionality, has a place here.
There is nothing like Kaivo which combines granular and physical modeling that I know of. Why don't I just buy Kaivo and shut up then, you ask? Well, maybe Omni 2's huge sampled instruments library mixed with its granular synthesis methods could provide similar sounds at the end of the day, perhaps with a sonic signature I prefer over Kaivo.
One will never make the Mangle or Padshop Pro etc sound similar to Kaivo, but I'm just wondering if Omni2 could create similar textures/sounds because of the very odd virtual acoustic instruments it ships with.
As I said earlier, I will go and test drive Omnisphere 2 when I can, and then decide which I will buy. I don't like having more than a handful of synths. I only have 3 so far, and that's almost too many.
It's really not a big deal. At all.

Great read. Of the 10000's of posts I've seen about Omnisphere, the one thing people always to forget is that Eric is not completely trying to design a synth he can sell as much as he wants a synth that he can use that does everything he's interested in.Chapelle wrote:Interview with Eric Persing:

He does have his own (well-deserved) opinions about synthesis and never claims he knows best, or that one of his products is "all you need". I've always loved the fact that no one from Spectrasonics has ever said they're in direct competition with anyone. They just do what they do.

Did you just call Serum out?declan32001 wrote: I've always loved the fact that no one from Spectrasonics has ever said they're in direct competition with anyone. They just do what they do.
(Can't think of anyone else claiming direct competition to others besides them. And yeah, it was one of the things that turned me off from buying it.)

BBFG#, I don't mind you being snarky (occasionally fun) but you know I'm right. Eric Persing has every synth past/present available and can't wait for the next 1000 to gestate.BBFG# wrote:Did you just call Serum out?declan32001 wrote: I've always loved the fact that no one from Spectrasonics has ever said they're in direct competition with anyone. If you're ever in Houston, no wait... if you find yourself in Houston (bathed) after April 30th I formally invite you to dinner and a 6 hour crash course with Omnisphere (yeah, Trilian's in it) if you agree to leave, or be gingerly set upon the lawn.

Never said anything about you being right or wrong. It was kind of tongue and cheek, but the truth is, I can only remember that one developer coming on to the market with challenges they were better than others that are favorites around here. Not sure if Omni was on their 'hit list' at the time. But it has been the only time I've seen that 'claiming direct competition' from a developer. I've come to expect it from members on every synth here. And often a person can actually make valid points that are informative about the product, support, company and even price. But it does send a red flag when a developer does it or even some of the other things they pull. I'm just saying those developers seem to be in the minority around here. The 'fact' you apply solely to Spectrasonics there just seems to me as something that applies to most of the developers here.declan32001 wrote:BBFG#, I don't mind you being snarky (occasionally fun) but you know I'm right. So thanks for the invite anyway. I do find Omni simple enough to not need a course to get around on it and in fact have ended up showing the 'trained' sales people things they've never seen in it.
(And I'm still positive I haven't gotten very deep into it at all). My last trip to the brick & mortar yielded some very nice and unexpected surprises from the staff there. And I am looking forward to seeing how Omni 2 is actualized when it floors officially.

Is there any word if this new version will allow for us to create user multi samples with zones n such , one thing I've always wanted to do was to create MULTI-sounds in Omnisphere with some contemporary rom sounds such as real sounding multi-samples of Brass, which I think would be amazing.
As an early adopter n customer of Omni 1, I was let down there wasn't more everyday bread n butter rom sounds included in the humungous amount of presets,so the question remains, does anyone know if it'll be possible to add our own multi-samples and create zones n such?

This came up recently here (or maybe a different thread). There is a caveat - you can import a sample per layer, per patch. So you could in theory layer 16 user samples in a multi - 2 dynamics layers per patch and then ranged into 8 zones in the multi. Personally I think that's not a great idea, it would be clumsy to set that up as one unified instrument, it's not really designed for user multisamples, but if you really want to there are some limited options.firepile wrote:It will not.trusampler wrote:Is there any word if this new version will allow for us to create user multi samples with zones n such , one thing I've always wanted to do was to create MULTI-sounds in Omnisphere with some contemporary rom sounds such as real sounding multi-samples of Brass, which I think would be amazing.

BTW - that Music Radar interview is great, it's well worth a read. First official confirmation that Trilain and Stylus will both get updates too in time, and there will be new instruments.

Yes, no demo, I know. But I'm under the impression that some retail outlets will have it setup ready for a demonstration/playing around with in store, like with Omnisphere 1:basslinemaster wrote:Good luck with that! Is there a DEMO version of Omnisphere I can try?
Because of the size of our instruments, we don't offer Demo versions.
However, you can contact one of our local dealers in your area in order to arrange a live demo of Omnisphere. To find a local dealer in your area, please contact your local Spectrasonics distributor "
