why ?
2caudio plugins consistently go on sale. For a cpu hog like this I'll hold out for the optimizations, the rudimentary improvements, and extra content and pick it up when it inevitably goes on a seasonal sale for the same discount as the intro price - if not better (depending on how things work out.)

not to mention the value of the euro might have improved by then too.

One important lesson I've leaned in business is:

Sometimes a little OZZY goes a long way:

The info page says 1.0.1 but A379, not b379. Does that mean I don't have the latest?

The installer file itself on OSX was labeled 1.0.0, yes -- even though it was 1.0.1. My mistake. Corrected -- well I have actually just removed the version number from the installer itself to avoid forgetting to change this in the future -- so now only the download zip, and the unzipped folder show the version number.

The installer itself should have been correct. 1.0.1 is internal build 379. You should see b379 on the INFO page of the GUI. Do you?

no. that is correct. my mistake. A379. A or b or whatever it says does not matter. 379 is the latest.

just bought Kaleidoscope, demo sounded interesting and thanks to this thread I have good idea what others have done with it.So thank you Simon and others who uploaded sounds

My first experiment with a "realistic" image to shape the resonators:

Processing a a field recording/factory ambience I recorded in a Russian steel factory some years ago for the soundtrack for a documentary on a Russian orchestra - with Kaleidoscope, using a processed image of a steelworker from that factory to shape the resonators, a custom waveform tuning file extracted form an oud pluck to tune the resonators and a second abstract image made with ArtMatic in the output module to further shape the signal. Other than being nice surreal eye candy, the steelworker image actually does some interesting things to the signal:

Simon this is a cool idea! A steelworker image used to process the sounds recorded from his environment. Great synergy between the Kaleidoscope technologies individual modules. Seems like not only is this an entertaining experiment, but also could be a very effective way to use you resources.. A picture tells a thousand stories...writes a thousand symphonies...
waves break, but somehow it all makes sense.

Thanks Wade, this is actually very fascinating and I shall pursuit this idea further.

Go, Simon! You'll have quite a few people in your cheering section, I suspect...

I decided to dig a little deeper last night based on some of the comments and examples posted. I did find that I was able to pull a lot of interesting things out of this which didn't sound like ambient washes of sound. I came up with some really exquisite results which I failed to record just before the demo timed out. I also found that I got more interesting results by importing my own images, but I wonder if that was merely because I was more invested in the results instead of quickly clicking between dozens of the included images without taking the time to really explore them. Anyway, I'm tipping more towards buying this now.

Had an idea that may or may not be useful Andrew... Do you think it would be useful to have some sort of rhythmic "swing" setting that worked like arpegiators do over the image? Just throwing it out there.

OK, my head just exploded! I don't know why I didn't think of it before, but opening a Kontakt library (of violin clusters in this case), and running the output through KS is a whole new experience. Let's just say the already infinite possibilities are increased by infinite exponentiality... Jeez, Andrew, what you're doing to us!! :)

Post

Actually, what I really like is to take a snippet of Kaleidoscope output and load that INTO Kontakt to use as an instrument. For extra fun, send that back through Kaleidoscope again.
