Maschine 2 as a VST in Tracktion 5, midi routing/recording

Hello all, I'm having a bit of difficulty getting my Maschine working properly as a VST within Tracktion. The root of the problem is that I can't get Tracktion to record the notes I play on the Maschine pads as midi notes. I expect this is some kind of midi routing issue within Maschine, but for everything I try I haven't been able to figure it out on my own. Does anyone have advice on the best way to get this set up, or maybe even a Tracktion project I could use as a template? Thanks for any help.

Do you have any updates on this? I can record midi with a midi keyboard but as soon as I use my maschine as a plugin nothing is recorded. The maschine is recognized as midi interface in the settings so I guess this is not the problem

If Maschine is used as a midi interface, you should probably select it as an input for recording instead of a plugin.

The idea of maschine is that you use it as a plugin together with the hardware. You can record the midi output from maschine and edit it afterwards. This works fine in Ableton and other daws.

Create a new edit
Put Maschine on track 1 as a VST
Add Maschine as an input on Track 1
Go to the input section on **track 2**, and right click, go to "Midi Tracks", choose "Track 1"
Arm the new input on Track 2
Hit record, do whatever you do in Maschine

Does the midi output from Maschine record onto track 2?
"my gosh it's a friggin hardware"

that helps but only if I set a sound in maschine explicitly to export midi to host. And then only the midi signal of one of the sounds is recorded no matter how many are set to expport midi :|

Perhaps a routing issue in Maschine itself? And isn't there an option to drag and drop midi into the daw, just like Stylus RMX?

Afraid that I haven't a clue why this doesn't meet your needs, or what it is you're trying to do, that you can't do.

You seemed to describe wanting to record the midi output from Maschine, inTracktion, so you could edit it afterwards. If that's not what you're trying to do, what exactly are you trying to do, that isn't working? That does work in other hosts?

I haven't got Maschine, which might be where i'm not following you. Happy to try and help, but I don't understand the problem at the moment.

I haven't got one of these.

You've said the Maschine shows up on the Settings page as a MIDI interface. Does it also show up as an audio interface?

When you insert the plug-in, does that send the MIDI out to the hardware or does it make audio within the DAW?

If the plug-in sends MIDI data out, I'd be concerned about creating a MIDI loop if it was not disabled during recording.

A typical Maschine setup is like an MPC - you have several samples to form a drumkit. Each sample is triggered by one of the pads. (And each pad should send a midi signal). If I record the midi output from Maschine the way you decribe it, the midi data from only one of the samples is recorded. Thats the problem

Maschine is software only, no audio interface and no midi interface (at least the Micro)

How can it be software only if it is recognised as a midi interface? You seem very confused.

So the pads you're playing are on the screen?
