MuLab/MUX for live work i.e. loop-triggering matrix like Ableton Session view?

I know the Mulab for live work subject has been broached on here before, but I'm wondering if anyone has managed to use the MUX to create a loop-triggering matrix like the Ableton Live Session view. I see someone has built a vst using the Reaper api: http://www.helgoboss.org/projects/playtime/, but this only works for Reaper. I've had a play with the MUX and sample player modules, but couldn't find a way to build the matrix and buttons to trigger the loops. If the MUX could be used for this, that would be great as I don't want to buy another daw for live work. Alternatively, if anyone knows of a third party vst that could do the job.
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.

Good ol' Phrazor. I found the last free beta, fully functional and working fine. Here, step into Wayback Machine(virtual whooshing-type sound): https://web.archive.org/web/20060717004 ... ratory.htm
It doesnt have a matrix-style clip view, just a column clip list. Works the same though in that you can trigger clips live. You have to send midi to the Phrazor vst, at which point it outputs its clip midi either internally(you can chain vsts inside of it) or back to Mulab which i prefer as i can then do further midi editing to the recorded output. Just place it in one rack and send the results to another rack containing your synth/sampler etc.
BUT the layout can seem a little confusing and it takes a little setting up to make it live-ready, as it has several other functions. You can save the setup as a template though, and once you get it its quite neat.
Let me know if you need help getting it going.

You can do certain things easily in Mulab.
The above can be built for 12 loops to be triggered and you can extend it to 128 loops if necessary.
The Sequence Player can be set to be triggered for start and triggered for stop. If you have just sampled loops you use the MuSampla, if you have more complex instruments use them in a MUX.
If you need live effects, there is a factory patch in the Experimental folder with a similar concept.

Thanks for your answers guys.
@Jonathan - Phrazor certainly looks interesting. Is it 32 bit only though? I know about jbridge, but I'd prefer to stick to only 64bit plugs.
@Andreas
Doing this with MuLab/MUX is my preference. For live, I'd be using chopped up audio stems. For instance, each track/song would comprise its component tracks e.g. kick, snare, hats, bass, pads etc and each of these would be split into sections, for arguments sake, verse-chorus i.e for the kick, a stem for kick verse and a stem for kick chorus. From your config, it looks like I can do this by triggering each of these loops from a controller or by clicking keys on the mulab keyboard, pressing once to switch on and again to switch off? What would be nice would be the ability to have buttons on the front panel of the mux to switch each of these loops on and off i.e. creating a gui to control these loops Is that possible?
Hope this makes sense and thanks again guys for helping me out.

Only 32 bit. Still, not bad for a 9 year old beta.

This is getting there I think. Pretty much following Andreas's config, the only difference being the note key rangers included so that the loops are played at the correct pitch. Also, the note naming feature is useful here so in the edit view you can see the names of the loops. Hitting once plays, then again while it's playing stops the loop. If I can now use something like Launchpad or some android app to map to the loops, I should be pretty close to what I want to achieve. If any MuLab experts out there can think of improvements, please chip in.

Sure, no problem. I'll post the MUX patch up once I've tidied it up a bit.runaudio wrote:any chance when your finish could we all have a look at it to see how you did it thank you

If you are using push, launchpad, keyboard, they all can send notes.
And these notes can be on one specific midi channel.
In Mulab you have modules to 'select' a midi channel, a key range, one note, even a velocity range. A MUX can contain nearly anything.
With the HW controller(s) and a MUX you should be able to trigger anything.
If it's 'one shot' trigger you require, just use a Mudrum or Musampla.
If you need to run a loop continuous, use the sequence player. I used the sequence player ONLY to be able to switch something on and, later, off. Look at the trigger options in the sequence player.
If you do a 'specification' (if i press this i want that to be running, ....) i should be able to help. But it's always good to learn for yourself to be more independent when updates are required.
PM if you need assistence.
At least it should be doable to do one live set. Making a general instrument would be a lot more difficult!

While I agree that its good to learn through experimenting, I tend to learn better using working examples so I am interested to see mgiambros' MUX.

As far as i know there is nothing to that can be used on a front panel to click on to start 'something'. You would need an external controller.mgiambro wrote:Thanks for your answers guys.

Andreas has beaten me to it! I ran into a couple of problems with my MUX which Andreas's resolves:bibz1st wrote:While I agree that its good to learn through experimenting, I tend to learn better using working examples so I am interested to see mgiambros' MUX.

This definitely presents some interesting options for live performance.
