I see there is a T5 and T6. Which do I buy? Is T6 not just in development (bug fixing stage)?
If I buy T5 do I get a free upgrade to T6 or...?

If I load T5/6 onto one computer.... and then I buy a new computer... I assume it's not locked to that old computer. That would be awful! How many computers can I put it on?

Thanks!!

Looks like you get the V5 & V6 bundle together. I'm just going ahead with it... but hope I can transfer to a new computer in future!

You can instal tracktion on 4 computers.

Once you purchase it, it states that in the confirmation email you get from Tracktion.

Post

Ah, I see that now - thanks!
So I can use it on 4 computers and then have to buy a new license after that.
Hopefully the company keep going and I don't need too many new computers over the years!

I'm having trouble getting the free copy of Melodyne running - something to do with an iLok file and access being denied. Anybody experienced similar?

Here's a good question!
I unlocked Tracktion. I then closed it, right-clicked on the Tracktion symbol and made it "run as administrator" as the website says you need to do in order to run some VSTs. When I re-opened Tracktion it asked me to unlock it again. Does this mean I have used TWO of the effective four licenses? Or since it's the same computer... does it count as one?

Post

Gah, I need to fix another thing. When I link to the VST folder it says that the dll files I have there aren't loading for some reason :s

4 computers means you can install on 4 computers simuntaniesly, and from what i understand if one of your computers breaks, you can contact them and they will give you extra install, that is if yoiu need to install it on 4 computers.

As to instaling vsts, i did not have to run anything as a admin, i installed them and they work fine.

Post

also some vsts like Ozone, etc. say they did not install right, but when you look in your vsts list they are present there, so check first in the list, before you do any unnecesery extra work :)

Post

Hmmm... Well I'm linking to the correct folder but they don't appear in the list. It just says that they appear to be plugin files but are failing to load correctly :s

Extremely frustrating! I'm pretty miffed as I never had this problem at all with Tracktion 2.

Any VSTs that worked with T2 will only work on T6 32 bit. Is this what you have installed?

Post

Nope, I installed 64 bit as I'm using Windows Vista 64-bit.
Is there a problem running 32-bit Tracktion on a 64-bit computer? Am I not better using the 64-bit (more accurate)?
Even Melodyne and jamstix aren't loading up so I think something funny is up.
Maybe I can uninstall and re-install the 32-bit version to see what is happening..

Post

OK, just downloaded the 32-bit version (though haven't uninstalled the 64 bit version) and now the plugins appear in the plugin window but they still wont load. So it's a step in the right direction..

EDIT - these are old files I'm opening. If I delete the jamstix VST in the exisiting track and then try to put down a new jamstix VST then Tracktion crashes! NIghtmare!

EDIT2 - now it is recognising the original jamstix VST (don't ask why, I don't know) but crashes if I select it. This might be a jamstix issue so I need to check it out (I'm convinced of this now)...
It is also recognising an older VST which I just installed and working fine whereas it wasn't 5 mins ago. :s

In general, do people use the 32 bit version? It seems this is the solution to my problem.

Post

if you have older vsts that dont have 64bit version avaliable, use 32 bit Tracktion

I personaly use 64 bit version, but that is only because all of my vsts have 64bit version avaliable.

32 vs 64 bit is about the VSTs you use rather than the OS. 32 bit VSTs will run in a 32 bit host. 64 bit VSTs will run in a 64 bit host. This is entirely about use of memory and that's about how big the sample libraries you use are. (As far as I know.)

Some hosts have built-in adapters and can load both types of VST. There are also VST bridges to do the same.

I run Tracktion in 32 bit. Every plugin I own has a 32 bit version. I don't load any large sample libraries. At this point, 64 bit just limits me to to newer plugins.
Surely there must be consensus by now...

Some have both versions installed. I have, but I don't know yet how practical it will be to swap between them on the same project. The 64-bit version can use more RAM for plug-ins, but can only use 64-bit plug-ins. I don't know if the Melodyne plug-in's gone 64-bit yet.
[W10-64, T5/6/7/W8/9/10/11/12/13, 32(to W8)&64 all, Spike],[W7-32, T5/6/7/W8, Gina16] everything underused.
