Nice joke! :D Examples?

New musicians are unexperienced so they take the easiest/best-liked synth available and the one with most presets. I saw Sylenth1 on a torrent site with 20.000 presets!!!

Budget doesn't matter in this case because the kids just don't pay for it.

That doesn't even touch on the 64 bit issue. I am not spending that kind of money on a synth that may not run well on my machine.
Well, if you assume that everyone that uses Sylenth1 actually buys it, I'd have to agree. I think, though, that the popularity has to do with a cracked version being widely available (with 800+ soundbanks included in one download).

Spire is becoming more popular; unsurprisingly, it is cracked as well. Same for Serum.

Personally, I think Sylenth1 is still a great synth. Yes, there are synths with more features and better prices, but most of them are not as fast to edit as Sylenth1. Only the upcoming Hive seems to be designed with that in mind. With that being said, for beginners (that actually buy software) I think Sylenth1 is still a great choice for a first synth.
I would never risk getting a cracked version. Many of them end up getting downloaded with nasty viruses. Why would you take the chance?

No. And that's where your point fails. You won't be able to replace Sylenth1 in terms of sound with Zebra. You won't be able to replace Zebra with Sylenth1 either. It's 2 different synths. Actually they're not even remotely close in sound. If you think so, then i have to wonder about your arsenal of plugins, because basically, you'd just need Zebra, and nothing else. :)

Just a question for you: Why you think people have a studio full of analog monosynths, which all have the same waveforms, and all have the same features? They'd just need 1 if they could just replace it with a machine that has the same features. Yet they look for diversity. Because they do sound different.

I don't know why we're arguing though. You don't want to spend your money on Sylenth1, that's fair enough. You don't have to understand it either that people are stoked on this. I don't understand why people are stoked on Synthmaster, which you praised in another thread, and said one just has to like its sound. I owned it, i didn't like the sound at all. So.

I'm more concerned about the fact that the Joachim Garraud soundset is going to cost $49 once the introductory $39 price ends... $39 is too much for me to consider, I just bought Hybrid 3 for $49 before Christmas with well over 1,000 presets. I don't understand what's happening with preset pack prices nowadays, most of them are WAY too expensive to consider buying.

Yes, all synths sound different. And I'm all for diversity. But if I'm going to purchase one synth and I'm limited to $200 I sure don't buy Sylenth1 over a multitude of synths that cost the same or a little more and do so much more.

Why is it that I have over 100 VSTs and yet I don't own Sylenth? Is it quite possible that whatever this synth gives me isn't worth the $158 price tag given the synths that I already have?

You can question my arsenal all you like. It would blow away most people's at this forum and online in general. But you gotta wonder. If I buy almost everything in creation as long as it offers me something that I'm not getting from another synth, why don't I own Sylenth?

If you can answer that question, then maybe you have an argument.

Why do you think that people who work hard on software and sound design should not be paid for their efforts? For most of the history of synthesis, to get a new hardware synth cost at least $ 2,000 -- and thru the seventies and eighties there were important new synths coming out every year as technology improved.

There is an attitude in the music and software worlds that it's ok to not pay for people's work. If we do not pay for creative work, the talented people who do the creating will have to stop. You don't have to be a millionaire to be able to pay $ 49 for great sounds -- or $ 200 for a great synth.

If you don't want to pay for presets, make your own.

Ultimately it will be market driven. If nobody buys a soundpack for $ 49, but thousands of people buy it for $ 39 or $ 29 then the price will drop. Talented developers deserve a chance to make a living.

Because opinion on the street largely seems to be that if you pay for software, which "isn't a physical thing and therefore has no value", you're a big fat chump who may as well throw a 100 pound note into a muddy pond and step on it.

What does it mean, blow it away, or out of the water? Is that a general view point everyone must have, or solely your personal opinion?

It's all about superior flute and oboe presets.

Can you show me where I suggested all presets should be free?

I didn't vote although I own Sylenth1 - if it is "a standard for EDM" is absolutely insignificant to me. But its a darn good sounding synth with a great UI.
