Cool! :tu:

Btw, these kind of "outlined" rectangle graphics can be quite cool, as the vertical lines give transients, and the horizontal lines give sustained tones...

this is a good family of images to explore as you have discovered...

Turning 40 ain't that bad?? Sh*t, turning 60 ain't that bad either! Neither will my turning 70 next year (well, as long as all systems are go). Actually, Andrew and Denis, y'all are helping my brain function better, and thassa fack! That is not to say KS is only mental therapy... ;)

Yep. I spent a bunch of time during my train ride (re-)examining the tuning documentation and doing some deliberate experimentation (with a single diagonal line sweeping from corner to corner, for instance) to better understand how the space is being subdivided. Tuning, and the subdivision settings (e.g. partials vs repetitions vs sorting vs...) is really key to making Kaleidoscope respond in a predictable fashion to whatever the input is. You guys have obviously put a great deal of thought into supporting various modes of space > sound mapping, and this effort is highly appreciated.

HI I was missing some last things in that last track.. So I did another version here it is

https://soundcloud.com/twotoneshuzz/kaleidosunshinetwo

A Celtic harp sound from Scattered Entity run into a Kaleidoscope patch made by Simon S.

A Framedrum from the Alchemy soundest by Simon S. heard both processed by Kaleidoscope and with just some Übermod and Valhalla Room

A Timpani from Scattered entity both effected by Kaleidoscope and with just some reverb.. The patch Tremor Drone generated a deep drone growling sound that comes in once in a while

A Vocal ensemble singing a gesualdo piece fully submerged in Kaleidoscope preset.

Everything was extensively tweaked and mixed in Logic X.
waves break, but somehow it all makes sense.

Actually I am right now, as we speak, modifying this to make it even more powerful... maybe in 1.0.2... 1.1.0 if not...

don't worry we won't break any backwards comparability... but our system can be augmented in powerful ways...

I have photoshop. I've got to eventually dive in and see if there is a way to make something that I can call my own to use in KS. For now, I know too little to know if it's even possible. Hopeful though.

This comment led to a youtube excursion to finally check out David Torn. That led to the discovery of David Sylvian (which I like a lot). That further led to the discovery of Sylvian's collaborations with the cast of King Crimson and others...Fripp, Bruford, Levin, (the other guys I can't name or spell), as well as Bozzio, and on...all guys who I like.
There are a bunch of new things to check out further now...

I'm own Retina iMac and Kaleidoscope GUI is terribly lagging on my system (Andrew calls this 'high CPU usage on some systems").
Fortunately there is a workaround, which allows to use Kaleidoscope on Retina machines without external display available: just Cmd-click on your DAW application file, choose 'Get info' and enable the 'Open in low resolution' checkbox. This works well on my machine: iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014), Mac OS X 10.10.2, Ableton Live 9.1.7 x64.

Hope this Retina incompatibility will be fixed soon!

Hey, that's very cool info. :tu: We did not know that trick. Can anyone else with a retina mac confirm this works (as a temp solution)?

This is what Denis has been working on most of the week. We hope soon too. This kind of work is not very fun/creative/rewarding...

....but yes, we are committed to fixing the issue...

Confirmed. This has been my solution, as well. Works great with Logic and Live, but is obviously not ideal.

Haven't checked how this actually sounds in KS as I'm just couch-potatoe-ing, could be interesting though:
