Been messing around with Strobe 2 today, creating pads. Here are some clips. Each of these is just one instance of Strobe 2:

Yes, but likely late spring - mostly I got rather carried away with writing new DSP blocks for the output section. There are some really unique processors in there, things you won't have heard before.Hey Fxpansion! How's things going in the lab? Is a release spring still possible?![]()

So Strobe 2 will sound different from Strobe 1?Angus_FX wrote:Yes, but likely late spring - mostly I got rather carried away with writing new DSP blocks for the output section. Strobe 2 has a six-unit FX section on the output, with most of the Fusor effects, some Etch/Bloom/Maul-derived processors (not the whole thing, just some algorithms), the new reverb we developed for BFD3 and quite a few brand new things.
The core of the synth engine sounds very similar to Strobe 1 (why fix what isn't broke?), but has a handful of additional features that make it considerably more capable without adding undue complexity - tone controls, filter bleed, phase reset, detuning modes, sub LFO.
There are some subtle changes to things like gain structure and envelope timings that make it sound slightly different to Strobe 1, and it runs only at 2x and above - so will sound brighter and clearer than Strobe1 does at 1x. V2 doesn't support anything below Core2, and a Sandy Bridge or better CPU is recommended.. the AVX units on the newer cores light a rocket underneath it efficiency-wise.

So will you be dropping a public beta soon?!!!

@Amberience your pads don't seem to be playing.

We've never said anything about public beta. I suspect not, but don't rely 100% on that.

Third link is broken. Other three sound great!Amberience wrote:Been messing around with Strobe 2 today, creating pads. Here are some clips. Each of these is just one instance of Strobe 2:
Also, is it just my browser being silly or do those playback links not work properly? I can download them from dropbox, but can't seem to stream them from the post... weird.

Why ur music sound like CPU overload of some kind, or this was done intentionally?Amberience wrote:Been messing around with Strobe 2 today, creating pads. Here are some clips. Each of these is just one instance of Strobe 2:

Can it do phase lock like the Moog Minitaur? If not, would that be a simple thing to add?Angus_FX wrote:The core of the synth engine sounds very similar to Strobe 1 (why fix what isn't broke?), but has a handful of additional features that make it considerably more capable without adding undue complexity - tone controls, filter bleed, phase reset, detuning modes, sub LFO.

It can phase reset at note-on (so you get broadly consistent tone on each note) if that's what you mean?
It doesn't flush the filter out between notes, so at high resonance you'll still get a bit of variation between notes (depending on the relationship between the osc phase and the filter self-osc phase), but in terms of a consistent osc/envelope relationship for tight, solid bass sounds it's just so.

If you mean the clicking in the Ascension pad example, I'm pretty sure it's a bug in the ramp generator, this is in our tracking system. But I wanted to demo the lushness of the sounds you can get from just one instance.chilly7 wrote: Why ur music sound like CPU overload of some kind, or this was done intentionally?
If you mean the pulsing overdriven sound in DrewsPulsingFEZPad01, then that is a ChanComp being driven extremely hard for an effect. DrewsPulsingFEZPad02 is the same pad, but without that ChanComp.

I did a little more research into it and it seems that what Moog refers to as "phase lock" is really just offset oscillator levels:Angus_FX wrote:It can phase reset at note-on (so you get broadly consistent tone on each note) if that's what you mean?
