These are all details i will take care of once a background has been decided on. Right now the membranes are just uni-colored rectangles put there as placeholders, so of course i plan to give them some texture once i get to that part. :)

(Like i said at the beginning, when i make a skin the first phase is always trying out different things to collect ideas and take care of the details once i know where its all headed. Thats because except for the final phase i never work after a set-in-stone plan since the only reason i do this at all is because i can let creativity take me wherever it wants to go. If it wasnt for that it would be just another form of 'work' and i probably wouldnt do it because i probably wouldnt enjoy it.)

As for the display and button positions, the real synth has those above the keyboard so i found it a more appropriate place. Its also better to have it there in a plugin because you dont need to look downwards to see program and parameter changes. (Which is probably why it has pretty much become standard to have these items at the top of the UI. It just makes more sense ergonomically.)

BTW, i really liked that idea.

Im not sure if it can be made like that without giving up what i had in mind for the vari-panel, but the idea is definitely good and i really like how this looks.

But coming back to reality am I correct in saying that unless Martin makes some changes it won't be possible to implement your GUI (I seem to remember you saying that a few pages back)? Are you two working together behind the scenes ?

Yes, we are in contact.

Ive just replied to the PM he sent, now im waiting for his decision regarding size and background and some things about the vari-panel which i need to know before i can proceed.

Once i have the info i will continue to complete the UI.

Oh and thanks for that. Good catch.

I messed those up when i redid the slider height so im glad you saw it.

(Here they were still correct.)

Cool ! Is Martin going to allow user skinning or will the GUI still be contained in the .dll ? Anyway looking forward to the future......... :)

I guess, for the version 2.0, I will just go for the 'built in' GUI. Otherwise it will take too long (I still have to figure out how to best to that). I will consider user skinning for a future update, as it should not interfere with preset formats, etc.

Cheers,
Martin

This is shaping up to be an AMAZING instrument. I honestly can't wait for the release.

Thanks to Martin and everyone else involved for your work!

As much as I LOVE this GUI, could there be a slightly larger space bellow the top modules? It looks uneven. The line just abruptly begins just a few pixels below the faders. Other than that, I think it's tits!

Sorry, "tits" is a very politically incorrect way of saying "really really awesome" !!

akademie wrote:I think that buttons and display at the top are more logical in case of virtual/plugin, e.g. because you can move GUI (holding top bar of plugin window) down to save space on display and still be able to see display and main controls (program selections...), when editing, then you move GUI to see it complete, of course. With buttons and display at bottom, you miss them very quickly by moving plugin window down a bit :-(
Another practical reason, you can switch faster between more PG8X instances (and patches) or other plugins, if you are using a daw with tabbed plugin window (e.g. Studio One).

Otherwise, the "control panel" below the "tone panel" looks possibly more like the hardware.
It`s not a bug... it`s a feature!

I have a MKS-70 though. Anyhow.

I usually don't review GUIs but I feel this one I find very promising, especially this version:

A few thing though:
Sizewise I think it's too large (1000x800) for a laptop (17,3"). It will fit depending on what host you use I guess.
Desktop monitor >19", no problem. Will it be resizable?
Ok, so I took the liberty to check if it's possible to reduce the size a little:
Image974x755 with a beige/brownish tone.

* I contracted the LFO/ENV1+2/Chorus sections by moving the controls up a bit.
Now the space between the "main" and the "sub" labels are the same as in the DCO1+2/Mixer/VCF/VCA sections.
* Same thing on the right side (cropped); I think you can still squeeze a logo in there somewhere at the top
(it's the height that concerns me the most).
* And one more thing; There should of course be 11 value tracks alongside the sliders (see VCA).

The tabs below the preset display (and nevermind the font I used) is just an idea that popped up.

All minor things I guess but I thought I'd just share my humble opinion.
All the best and good luck Martin and ENV1! :tu:
man, good to see you´re alive aaaaaand great to see this gui.... as usual, stunning work from you! hope this will be the gui for it and not just an approach on how to go on it... ! :tu: :tu: :tu:

What a strange comment, considering that this 'stunning work of his' is really the black skin i showed earlier that day and that nBeat merely altered my screenshot.

And also that if it wasnt for my 'approach on how to go on it', (which almost sounds as if i was merely whiling away the time here rather than making every effort to try to find something nice and suitable), everyone would have had to wait until Martin had found the time to make a new UI since nobody else seemed to care one bit before i took the initiative.

Seriously, sometimes i really dont understand what it is that makes people say what they are saying.

This was an old screenshot from before the size change and before i re-aligned things.

I wouldnt have left it like that.

(Everything you have seen so far was merely to show certain ideas and thus still incomplete/unfinished in many areas.)

ENV1:

I was afraid you would take what B. Lander's said this way since it was open to that interpretation.

I, however, understood that he meant that he agreed, perhaps too emphatically and rather carelessly, with the slight modifications of details nBeat had suggested might be made to a GUI that you had already tweaked to near perfection.

(I was satisfied with what you had done several pages ago!).
