From what I have seen so far, Tracktion far outdoes the competition in making its website obtuse, awkward, and difficult to understand. I have thought that about thirty times, now I've finally said it.

So, I have to buy Tracktion in order to get to MARKETPLACE, which is launched from the DAW screen, in order to find out what the Mixer is and how much it costs?

Yeah I understand where you're coming from with that, I always find the website a bit difficult to navigate too.

I agree that the website isn't easy.

You can get to the MarketPlace from the demo version. There isn't a mixer. There's a plug-in called Master Mix but you don't have to have it.

A really good mix potentially needs nothing more at the mastering stage and otherwise there are other plug-ins out there for doing whatever might need doing.

Have you watched any videos about mastering? There are several by George Peckham (now retired) who mastered for vinyl for decades. Worth checking out on YouTube. I searched for "mastering" on YouTube and the second one that came up was about doing it using free plug-ins. Might be worth a look too.

If it requires a plug-in, well, that's still a mastering device, it's still something external of Tracktion....... Anyway, if it works.... and I see on Gearslutz
(the person who thunk up that name should be shot with a frozen ball of his own faeces) that the MasterMix thingy from Tracktion is $60, so if it comes to it, that's not bad. All told, I think the mastering angle is covered, eh? Despite the best efforts of the Tracktion team to make their website indecipherable and unknowable, I think I'll download the dang thing, Version 5, 32 bit. That sounds safe.

I actually like that Tracktion comes without much in the way of instruments and effects. The number of times I've used the bundled plugins that come with other DAWs comes pretty close to zero. Tracktion is more like a pure recording desk. What you put into it is totally up to you. Makes for a steeper learning curve, but less junk. Far less junk.

As I mentioned in another thread, my vote is Toneboosters for your basic suite of effects. Get the TrackEssentials and Barricade and you're good for all the regular effects.

Marketplace is a very new thing that allows you to find, buy, and install the tools you need without ever leaving Tracktion. BTW, it can also be accessed via a browser: marketplace.tracktion.com . I'm not sure how well either work, since it's not something I'm interested in. I have years of previous purchases and am very comfortable going the more common route.

Logic native one's sound rather good in my opinion (and other too).

I've never owned a Mac. But anyways, part of it is preference - it's very nice to have the plugins that you want and not ones that someone else has chosen for you. Another issues is the ability to swap a project from one DAW to another. The plugins that come with DAWs are generally locked to that DAW.

This is of course just my opinion. Some think that a DAW should come with plugins. I personally disagree with that and have listed my reasons.
