9 year old Sylenth1 just keeps kickin

Another thing about the Hybrid 3 installation....it did not give the a choice where the plugin was (going to be) installed.

On the Install screen down at the bottom, there is an Options button (to the left of the Install button) that lets you select the directory.

EDIT: For correction the installer did give a choice where to install the plugin but not the option to opt out of installing the AAX and 32 bit version.

Just for grins and giggles I am trying to install Vacuum Pro before I uninstall the Pace Virus and it's hung up at the same point "Processing Tpkx64" that the Hybrid 3 installer hung up on.
Win 7 64 Bit............

I had no problems with installing Vacuum Pro, but I am on 32-bit Windows 7, so maybe it is just a 64-bit issue?

Possibly. I was trying to install on Win 7 64 bit. After thinking about it today I guess it's possible that during the installation process the TPK Driver was trying to connect to Pace and either the site was down at the time or my security software blocked it although I received to indication or warning message.

I've sent a support ticket to Air but if it's a Pace issue then there's nothing Air can do which is why I'm opposed to third party CP schemes.......

Anyway I own just about every synth from Alchemy to Z3TA+ so there's really nothing new that Hybrid or Vacuum Pro could bring to my setup at least judging from the audio demos.......

I never would have purchased these plugins but since they came bundled with my Akai I figured I'd take a chance and try to install them today. Mistake.......oh well all it did was deepen my hatred for Pace.

Hybrid 3 does wavetable stuff, it is not unlike Dune 2. So, not really a fair comparison since S1 doesn't do wavetables...

I would like to have their Velvet Rhodes emulation, sounds very authentic judging from the audio on their site. But I am not convinced of that company.

Does it not do the kind of sounds and fit the genre that Sylenth1 targets? Is it not a synth that would be an option for people who want to do the genre of music that Sylenth1 targets? if so, who cares how the sounds are made? I don't look at a synth, if I'm looking for sounds to use for a specific genre and say "Well, it sounds like it would be great for EDM or whatever, but I'm not getting it because it has or doesn't have X synthesis." That's absurd. I buy a synth because it meets my needs as a sound creation device.

So given that Hybrid 3 can do all the sounds that Sylenth1 can do, sounds much richer, warmer, fatter and better, and on top of that costs $8 less, why on earth would you buy Sylenth1 over Hybrid 3?

I know I wouldn't.

And because of that, on my list of synthesizers to get in the near future, I have the following.

Bazille $129
Symtohm $113
Hybrid 3 $150

You'll notice that Sylenth1 is NOT on the list.

Why do you think that is?

I don't know how I can make this any clearer. For the quality of sound; for the type of sounds it produces; for the features in regard to modulation, etc., Sylenth1 is just not worth $158.

The company that makes that synth needs to take a look at its product, compare it to the rest of the marketplace as far as what's available and at what price and realize that its synth, for what it can do, is drastically overpriced.

There is no arguing that.

HaHa None of those synths - all of which I own - can sound as good as Sylenth1. You obviously do not have the ears to hear the brilliance of Sylenth1. However, I am happy that you can accept those other synths in place of Sylenth1, enjoy.

I think it's amazing that a 9 year old synth so devoid of features could be a consensus #1 for multiple years and the musical weapon of choice of so many top producers and composers.

I did state the obvious, which was a correction of your own biased statement.

The Korg M1 was very popular, was used on lots of hits and it does not have a particularly great sound and it has been far surpassed since. That sums up Sylenth too.

I hear the sound of Sylenth just fine. It has a nice pleasing high end, the low end is kinda weak. It has some strengths and some weaknesses and the strengths happen to fit well to some specific musical genres.

It is a good simple synth that happened to be in the right place at the right time with the supersaw sound when there was a Virus mania and its popularity was greatly assisted because anyone could easily download it and all the soundsets for free.

And Sylenth being a consensus #1? That is a reach and then only within a narrow demographic. There are whole ranges of musicians who have no interest in it or even ever heard of it.

The same thing could be said about the DX7. I think it's fair to say that this synth has also be surpassed by leaps and bounds. But by your same logic, the DX7 is still the greatest synth on the planet.

And that works in the opposite as well. Everybody's opinion of Sylenth1 is just that, opinion, not fact. The only fact is that the synth is used by many people. There is no disputing that.
