Just checked, if I buy ALL the Amplitube gear I don't have, including things I'm only marginally interested in, I still won't be able to use up my credits completely. Really was hoping for cool new stuff, not a '57 Champ, or the SLO-100 that everyone loves except me, or pedals I don't care much about.

true, but they're readjusting the value of credits not just raising prices.hibidy wrote:Well......I hate to add a point.....but they have every right to raise prices.

I hear you, but hindsight is 20/20, just never thought they'd do this.
Does anyone know if there's precedent for it? I'm recently enough on the IK bandwagon that it's new to me, so I'm cranked, but maybe they do this every so often, and I should have known better.

True, but still.hibidy wrote:But it's IK, you knew this would happenbluedad wrote:true, but they're readjusting the value of credits not just raising prices.hibidy wrote:Well......I hate to add a point.....but they have every right to raise prices.
I paid money to IK on the assumption (there was never a promise) these credits would be the way forward on a long term, but what happens now actually makes perfect sense.
They've had a few half price sales on credits, so by now there's a large number of customers, like myself, "waiting around" with plenty of virtual dough. This means anything new IK releases, people get for 50% off using their credits. And whenever they do a sale, people with credits get an even better deal. I had hoped Sampletank 3 and new sound packs would be available for purchase with credits, but it's pretty obvious why that didn't happen.
So what IK does now is announce devaluation of the credits to get all those cheap lazy customers to quickly spend their bloody half price credits on existing gear (that's been on sale forever already), so they can retire that system before new versions of Amplitube and T-Racks get released. I think the time for buying new gear with credits is over. I hope I'm wrong. I hope my credits will still be valid for future gear, *even* if it gets more expensive than today. Wish we could get word from IK on it, but that won't happen (cause then people will hang on to their credits).
My prediction is that the next move from IK (already in March??) is going to be some sort of monthly gear subscription "service" (like Adobe CC, Office 365, etc). You heard it here first folks!

Here's a reply from Peter on gearslutz:

I've a bunch of credits stocked, too. I hope we're really talking about "slight" changes here. To be fair, we've seen ridiculous bargains in the last months (I picked up 10 T-RackS modules at 90%+ off or so), so "losing" 10-15% of value wouldn't kill me.

Could be. Steven Slate has announced it and I wouldn't be surprised to see IK coming up with a subscription based model, too. I won't subscribe to either of them. Perpetual licenses or no business with me, easy as that. I'd hate to be mixing and be like "oh, this brand X plugin would fit perfectly, but I better use this Slate/IK plugin, because I've subscribed and I need to get something out of it, right?"pekadan wrote:My prediction is that the next move from IK (already in March??) is going to be some sort of monthly gear subscription "service" (like Adobe CC, Office 365, etc). This mailing went out to people with Gear Credits in their account (and who are subscribed to receive newsletters, too, of course). There will be a followup mailing to a larger group. All will be clear in March when the changes into effect.
