Man, this thing is PHENOMENAL!!!!

bought it together with the architectual waveforms pack.....

i made a couple of amazing sounds i never made before.

some Aether/B2 after that and instant ambient drone bliss.....

Amazing work you have done Andrew and Denys....AGAIN!!!

just one thing: Logic X seems to be the only host that can run this baby without 'zipper noises' on my 2013 13' MBP (2.9 Ghz Intel Core 17, 8BG 1600 MHz DDR3, 256 GB SSD HD).
Ableton Live 9, Numerology 4 Pro, Bitwig Studio 1.1.5 can't:
tried different settings like the manual mentions, also the RME Babyface buffer setting when that didn't work, but still no go....

is the Uni-Verse telling me to move on to Logic X intuitively? :)

Okay, you wore me down with all your awesome examples and from playing around with the demo. I bought it.

For those of you on Windows, an alternative to Artmatic is Substance Designer from Allegorithmic. This is probably overkill for most of you and admittedly has a steep learning curve. I already use it, and their other products, in my 3D animation work, so it was nice to find an additional way to put it to use. I just thought I'd mention it in case anyone is interested.

I'm liking the results I get from using Kaleidoscope when using it as a kind of pre effect in between the sound source and final effect chain. I like the way it changes the character and movement of the sound.

You can't go wrong with LogicX, I refused to upgrade for long, but since I did I am glad I did, it's a total evolution from version 9, all the talk about it being a garageband-like downgrade is utter bullshit, after 30 years of using Logic and it's predecessors I can say that this is certainly the best version so far.

Great, welcome to the encounter group then!

yeah, i hear you on that one!

every version makes me love it even more (been switching back and forth since version 9). Sculpture...don't get me started with that one. Flextime..... latest update with region-based automation is fantastic! Smart Controls....new compressor mode, logic eq.......

i'm in the middle of getting rid of a lot of stuff (hardware and software). too much stuff that i am no longer comfortable with. i stayed too much in 'sketchpad' software land too long now.....too much Live Bits lol!!!)
this does NOT include 2cAudio stuff or Logic and Numerology plus Absynth, Reaktor and Flux and Valhalla plugins.

all i need is a good controller for Logic X (that doesn't have a touchscreen because i hate those things with tremendous passion) and i'm good. suggestions?

ok, ok sorry for the derail......

back to Kaleidoscope magic.....

Thank you for that tidbit. I've been hinting for someone to clue me but these Mac fanatics were staying tight-lipped. :x :P :tu:

...you're right, the learning curve looks vertical. I don't even know what the jargonmeans in the tutorial intro. Lol. Looks very, very cool, but way beyond anything that I'm willing to learn.

Keep in mind that it was mainly designed for creating very specific types of images for use in 3D graphics. But if you ignore all the babbling about normal maps and ambient occlusion and uv coordinate space, you can just use it to chain nodes together to make cool procedural images. Still, it works probably be better suited to someone with a little bit of a background in 3D or graphics in general.

I think for this something like filter forge is probably sufficient, also node based procedural texturing and image generation but less difficult and less specialised.

Post

My brain hurts... making some enhancements to the tuning system (as if it was not already deep enough. :dog: ).... this stuff gets complicated. :o

Yes, Filter Forge is another good one. That requires Photoshop, of course, but if you're going to be making images, you'll probably need that eventually anyway.

I've just been making a few images with After Effects to test when I get home. I'll post them later for your amusement.

I'm sure Logic X is all good for those people with expensive latest Macs but for me on my lowly 2010 dual-core Mini and my usually quite spritely 2013 Air it slow and unpleasant to use.
Considering a move to Tracktion on an i7 Windows laptop I was given... can't afford a new Macbook this year.

I just whipped up a bunch of images in photoshop that are sounding pretty sweet right now. I started with porn and wound up with psychedelia. I think I could get better at making the right kind of shapes with a little practice. I will google Filter forge right now and see what you guys are talking about. I'm just pumped to be using my own images right now. Natascha from Met Art sounds great so far...

Just brainstorming- my system will change tunings with no glitches. It would be cool if we could somehow specify a series of tuning changes and string them together. That would allow us to put together "chord" progressions that loop. Maybe I can already do that with automation...haven't tried yet.
