Hmm... If only it hadn't originally been called Fruity Loops...

All madness on a stick, but what could SOS offer to FLS users what both FM and CM do not offer? Very little, I suppose. SOS is more an in depth mag regarded to audio production, I assume. While FLS users probably are more interested in specified procedures about audio production. Like: 'how do I get a _____ like _____?'

How would you suggest they measure this hypothetical lack of demand?thecontrolcentre wrote:Lack of demand from it's readers?
Is there a lack of demand from it's readers for the seven page loops article in this month's issue?

The point is that they have reviewed some previous FL Studio versions, and I don't think they care what FM and CM can offer, they should be caring about their market. As I showed with my original post today, they have a LARGE article about loops. Previously in this thread (unless I'm mistaken) people have suggested that SOS isn't aimed at 'dance music' producers (producer meaning 'anybody who creates dance music', not the literal 'producer' in a studio). Their very long article on loops suggests otherwise.She Changed Her Mind wrote:All madness on a stick, but what could SOS offer to FLS users what both FM and CM do not offer? Very little, I suppose. My point being that a magazine as popular as SOS can sway opinion (as evidenced by the numerous 'white knights' in this thread, desperate to defend its decision) among a large proportion of the 'computer music making' community, and I wonder what their reasoning is. It will hardly affect FL Studio in any way, but I wonder why they don't want you to know about FL Studio 11, and then FL Studio 12 when it is finished, which will offer something pretty important that no other DAW (to my knowledge) offers - a vector based interface.

@basslinemaster
You are absolutely right about the reviews.
'The rather dark and compact user-interface might not appeal to some.'
A typical 'conclusion' of a SOS review IMO.
Totally off-road, but okay.

and yet that's what they're doing. unlike you, though, they actually know what their market is.basslinemaster wrote:The point is that they have reviewed some previous FL Studio versions, and I don't think they care what FM and CM can offer, they should be caring about their market.
Wow. A large article about loops, eh. Well that settles it. Clearly that's so dance specific that it pretty much obligates them to review your favourite toy. More than that, Im sure we can expect some equally suitable fodder like 'the ten best supersaw synth' style lists and in-depth studies of making wobbles. Because loops.As I showed with my original post today, they have a LARGE article about loops. Oh yeah, that's important all right.I wonder why they don't want you to know about FL Studio 11, and then FL Studio 12 when it is finished, which will offer something pretty important that no other DAW (to my knowledge) offers - a vector based interface.
Oh, and, erm, Tracktion. Vector-based UI for over a decade.

Like I said, a lot of 'SOS white knights' on this forum, desperately defending everything they do.whyterabbyt wrote:and yet that's what they're doing. unlike you, though, they actually know what their market is.basslinemaster wrote:The point is that they have reviewed some previous FL Studio versions, and I don't think they care what FM and CM can offer, they should be caring about their market.
Do you think it's acceptable that they didn't even allow readers to vote for FL Studio on their annual poll? You could vote for many other less popular DAWs, but not FL Studio... Why?

So you're suggesting that most of the people who use loops are NOT making dance music? So you're also suggesting that most of the loop packs you can buy are NOT dance oriented, and specifically aimed at people who make dance music?whyterabbyt wrote: Wow. Oh, so FL Studio 12's vector interface isn't important? Didn't know about Tracktion, does that negate anything else I've said? It's very interesting reading replies from irrational white knights...whyterabbyt wrote: Oh yeah, that's important all right.

So why did SOS feel it necessary to do a SEVEN page article on loops, if the magazine isn't aimed in any way at dance music producers?
But apparently FL Studio is verboten. Can't be mentioned in the magazine. You can't vote for it as your favourite DAW, and they won't review it. And then white knights here will claim that "the readers don't use it" - I wonder why that would be...

When I think of loops, I think of the 50s, and tape. While Dance Music was still made with guitars and real drums.basslinemaster wrote: So you're suggesting that most of the people who use loops are NOT making dance music?
