No, synth x,y,z has more features, PWM, is 64bit and has more modulation options.

Digital signal processing is a solved problem, not newfangled technology still at the experimental stage. Ithzak Perlman plays a Stradivarius from the 18th century, and so far no one has asked him to replace it with a recently made violin with better "technology." :D
He probably knows how to play it, so it doesn't really matter which instrument he plays as long as it is a good one.
However, there were some blind tests where modern violins were actually preferred to Stradivarius by experts, which I take it took many by surprise. But then again, each violin is unique and changes over the years and decades. A plugin stays exactly the same.

And I really doubt that those who use cracked versions are the ones who will get anywhere in music. Most of them probably download it, play around with it for a while, and then move on to their next prey. Serious musicians are usually not criminals.
Popular ok, but not that popular. The synth is popular amongst 'real' musicians, but is extremly popular amongst 'Electro House warez kids'.

But that's an old discussion and can be continued over and over again: In which way do cracked products affect sales? Countless Youtube tutorials with cracked Sylenths may be good advertising. Even commercial tutorials use cracked S1.

We have a large amount of Massive Youtube tutorials also. Too bad that one cannot see from the GUI if the Massive use is legit or not...(I'd say: 90 percent not).

If this is even close the case (i.e. easy cracking used consciously for the marketing purposes), we who have bought the license and paid the bill, should get some of our paid money back (if the world was righteous place). Of course none developer ever admits this kind of advertising.

There have also been a variety of videos from famous producers using cracked copies of Sylenth. I'm not surprised that is the case, just how shamelessly it is out in the open. The vast majority of sylenth users are using cracked copies and stolen soundsets.

Given that, it is not surprising that Lennar Digital doesn't do much if any development.

If that were a big problem for them, didn't they have more than enough time (almost a decade) to implement a serious protection system?

(I was just playing around with some of the options I have not used before. What is the Step Velocity mod source good for?)

There was a post from Ruben in May last year asking for feedback about ways to license Sylenth1. Not much heard since, but they were (at least back then) thinking about it.

And yes, the DX7 still is a good synth, just like many of the old analog ones still are. People like their sound, why else would Tal, U-he etc. try everything they can to make their plugins sounds like those old devices?

If by superior you mean more flexible, then sure, S1 can't do certain atmospheric pads, but there are other plugins for that. I don't see how that is a disadvantage of S1 when it never was intended to do that in the first place.
Analogue has characteristics that are still not duplicated in digital. That is why devs try hard to get there. Analogue simply will never alias for example. Analogue also trivially has non-linear responses that take large amounts of cpu to emulate in digital.

But digital synthesis? yeah, it keeps advancing and stuff today is better sonically than 10 years ago. There are new and better algorithms and techniques.

The low end of Hive sounds clear, solid and effortless. It blows Sylenth low end out the door.

Frequencies within the range of a 5-string electric bass sound just fine on S1. Below that I don't know, there is no point in having such low frequencies in music, anyway. I would only have to eliminate them in the mixer if there were any...

If you think they sound just fine, then that is just fine for you

I think minimizing the popularity of Sylenth1 to the easy crackability (if that's even the case compared to other plugins) vastly misses the point. The point is rather that it's popular because of its sound. No matter if some (stubborn) KVR members can imagine that or not.

It is not a $158 synth by today's standards no matter how you cut it. That is my only problem with Sylenth1. It is not worth the money that they are charging for it, especially when you can pretty much get it for free easily.
Really ? How do you know you can get it for free ? Been frequenting warez sites ?

First you say it's free then you say it's over priced. Sounds like someone has a crack problem.........

It may not be worth it to you but then not everybody is you..........

I own just about every synth from Alchemy to Z3TA+ and I still reach for Sylenth 1 before many of them.....because like I said it has it's own character. Don't like it ? Don't buy it......

See, you keep putting words in my mouth. I didn't say I didn't like it. I said it's a fine synth. Sounds great. Easy to get the commonly most sounds used today. It's just not a $158 synth for what you're getting. I don't care what anybody says. If you compare it, feature for feature against other similarly priced synths, it doesn't even come close as far as what you can do with the synth.

If Sylenth1 was on sale tomorrow for $79, I'd grab it in a heartbeat, especially since many of its sounds fit an upcoming track I'm going to be doing in the Max Martin vein. But I'll be damned if I'm spending $158 for 9 year old technology.

And my comment about it partially being popular because, for a lot of people, it's free is in reference to all the cracked copies out there. And no, I don't spend time at Warez sites. I hate them. I am totally against pirated software. But even if I wasn't, taking the risk on downloading a virus off these crappy sites is just not worth the risk to me.

That's why I don't own the synth. If I didn't care about pirating software, I would.

But apparently, from what I keep hearing (or are all these people lying?) a lot of the Sylenth1 users pirate their copies, attributing to its popularity.

But please stop putting words in my mouth. I have no problem with Sylenth1 as a synth in and of itself. What I have a problem with is the price tag attached to it.

How difficult is that to understand?

My not buying it has nothing to do with the synth itself but the cost. It's that simple.

Oh so you're just cheap.......that's not difficult to understand at all........

What kind of twisted logic is that ? So developers should lower the price of every synth that has been cracked ? :nutter:

First of all, I am not cheap. I have spent over $10,000 on my music studio including all the plugins I've purchased.

Secondly, developers should lower the price of their plugins when they are clearly outclassed by other plugins that are way cheaper.

If the price is so much of an issue for you, would you buy TAL's U-NO-LX, which is a whole lot less flexible than S1, yet costs 60 dollars?
