Here are a couple that are obviously going to produce random results. Ignore the bits of blue (KS certainly will). Crossing fingers that I get this upload right...

Nope. I failed. My files are too big. One is 1.7 MB and the other is 4.2 MB. Hmmmm. They're both 1024x1024 PNG files. I need to study. Anyone wanna give me a quick pointer?

nice man!

This demonstrates purposeful image design pretty well... great use of color/stereo-panning...

subtle-differences between L and R (R and G) are good to try. Completely different things in L and R usually doesn't sound too natural as that does not usually happen in real-world musical signals. So this kind of "mostly the same, but not exactly" stuff between L and R can be great....

of course the "width" control in KS can manipulate this some, but it can not achieve things like your image where there are minor differences in the actual size/scaling/geometry of the the image between L and R.

...and these kind of differences are not obtainable through normal audio dsp techniques like delays, pitch shift, etc. hence they are interesting/novel...
Useful pointers - thanks !!

What you say is very interesting because this image sounds good with lots of different tunings, whereas with other images I have designed a fair amount of trial and error is needed to find good matches.

[Simon is crawling out of the swamp now and understands the relationship between tuning files and images; I don't have that understanding yet (ever?).]

Cheers.

'Save for web' in Photoshop as PNG-8, rather than save as PNG can make a big difference. You may need to drop to 128 colours as well to meet the measly 256kb limit on KVR.

Thank you for the info. I have a lot to learn, but I'll get it. I'm pretty sure mine are 16 bit. Going to 8 should help. I'll get on it. :tu: :tu:

I've snagged everything that you guys have posted. Nice stuff. Very nice. ...and I can create infinite permutations for myself. 8)

Curious...why does the image info for the images posted here show them at almost all over 1 MB? The one Simon just posted saves as 2.85 MB on my machine. <scratching head smiley goes here>

Nothing special here. I had to reduce it all the way from 256 colors to 8 colors and set it to PNG-8, save for web. Anything else was too large. Man, I'm a novice. lol

obviously, I used liquify on my prior image. What a cool thing that is. Wish Painter X worked on Win 7. That was a waste of money...

Painter 2015 has the new particle brushes. EDU version is only 100 bucks on Amazon. Filter Forge also works inside it as a plugin.

I couldn't get it to work for me as a plugin in Painter 2015 on Mac.

I was quickly glancing over Painter last night. I may want to revisit that search.

I wanted to mention that I found one (of probably many) sites that has tons of license-free stock images for free. There are plenty that look like good starting points for some heavy tweaking.

I upload the pics to my server and just link them using the image tags.

That makes perfect sense. I should have thought of that. :dog: :hihi:
