On the subject of attack/decay speed, Ive never really understood their use over just using ADSR as is, probably because I've not needed them. Can someone explain why you would use them rather than just ADSR.

Sorry it is false . Im not english so i found a nice video who explains it better as i can do , what is FM.pljones wrote:FM synthesis isn't the same intent as using an LFO as a replacement for controlling a synth parameter.
LFO is just a name convetion for a modulator below 20hz.

It's related to the modulation system. The ADR times are not modulatable, the speed parameters are modulatable. The ADSR module has been built quite some time ago and i know there is a note on the wishlist to review this module. Currently working on adding Sinc 16 interpolation to the sample playback engine. Almost done. Great sonic improvement especially when playing samples with lots of high frequencies aka trebles.bibz1st wrote:On the subject of attack/decay speed, Ive never really understood their use over just using ADSR as is, probably because I've not needed them. Frequency Modulation requires the modulation of frequency. A low frequency oscillator does not have to necessarily modulate frequency. The two concepts are not directly connected. Indeed, it is only "by chance" that an LFO could be used to modulate the frequency of another oscillator - it is not a requirement of any synthesiser. The modular environment suggests that any parameter (including, as it is a parameter, the frequency of an oscillator) can be controlled by either an LFO or an envelope generator. Using one, both or neither does not imply that the modular synth is designed for FM synthesis.Braserox wrote:Sorry it is false . I generally imagine an LFO as simply a multi-point envelope generator with smooth interpolation, being allowed values from -1 to +1 -- automatically cycling... although I guess that's really what an audio frequency oscillator is...

Thanks for that, I look forward to the next update as usual. Got other questions too but will start a new thread.mutools wrote:It's related to the modulation system.
