Funds have now enabled me to purchase Hive. I never thought I'd give it the time of day before it came out, and now it's one of my favourite synths - I cannot live without it.
The VAT for us EU people is bullshit though (nothing to do with u-he). It would have been £67, but with VAT it's £81.
Well, even at £81 it's still a bargain for such a high-quality synthesizer.

I'd be interested to know why i.e. was it the looks, or the "supersaw EDM" reputation or...?tedlogan wrote:I never thought I'd give it the time of day before it came out

Thanks. reproducible. We try to fix asap.hakey wrote:I've experienced a number of crashes that cause my soundcard to completely freeze up.
For example, this patch - freeze - crashes if I play high chords. Does the same happen for anyone else?
Cheers,

This happens with your "freeze" patch? I can reproduce this. We will look into this. Thanks.hakey wrote:I'm getting the same run-away crashes. Seems to be related to patches with high harmonics and/or notes played in the higher octaves. When I play E7 it goes into a gnarly run-away high frequency chaos. bug or feature?
Cheers,
Michael

I like the look, and I'm indifferent to the EDM tag.Howard wrote:I'd be interested to know why i.e. was it the looks, or the "supersaw EDM" reputation or...?tedlogan wrote:I never thought I'd give it the time of day before it came out
At the time I was just knee-deep in Bazille wires and I already had ZebraHZ, so figured I did not need Hive.
The joyous workflow of Hive changed all that, not to mention the sound.

Is there any chance to see Global Unison and VoiceIndex# as modulator? And TRUE random LFO phase for each unison voice? Now the situation is the LFO phase for each of OSC's unison voice is fixed and this isn't good

just bought it yesterday after doing a song with just hive at front and back.
Sounds dare I say are the chitznats. I know I can not expect this to happen but if wavetables are added in the future this synth is gonna go through the roof.
BTW got my serial stached away for after march.

I can't imagine what the chaos would sound like after even 8 voices... I'm guessing this is for slow evolving pad sounds? is there a synth that does this?serhiy06 wrote:Now the situation is the LFO phase for each of OSC's unison voice is fixed and this isn't good
+1 for wavetables. though I too am skeptical of the possibility...fusionid wrote:just bought it yesterday after doing a song with just hive at front and back.

I'll wait for the official release before making any sort of real wishlist, I think.

Good looks, workflow, and sound - that's all you need. Sylenth had good sound but bad looks and workflow. I'd add Hive has good price too.tedlogan wrote:I like the look, and I'm indifferent to the EDM tag.Howard wrote:I'd be interested to know why i.e. was it the looks, or the "supersaw EDM" reputation or...?tedlogan wrote:I never thought I'd give it the time of day before it came out

The only other thing you could want in a synth is creative potential, but there's no reason why you can't have that while keeping good looks, good workflow, and good basic sound.

Yes I agree. In order of importance to me, it would be sound quality & creative potential first ( which Hive has REALLY surprised me by - the creative potential - I knew the sound would be top-notch), workflow close second, looks and price third. I would pay a lot for something like Hive. Of course there are other factors to consider when buying VSTs like CPU usage, stability and so on. I cannot be bothered to think about those now as I'm at work and very busy today and shouldn't really be on this forum right now.martingifford wrote:Good looks, workflow, and sound - that's all you need. Sylenth does sound great, but I dislike the workflow, and it looks incredibly ugly.

Just try Diva or Bazille or Dune or Largo or DCAM Synths or V-Station...or even Virus hahaLuxLucid wrote: I can't imagine what the chaos would sound like after even 8 voices... I'm guessing this is for slow evolving pad sounds? is there a synth that does this?
The chaos is the FAT! Random LFO for each voice when you modulate the PWM or osc tune, Pan etc. This is what I need. And do not ask me why.

As Howard said in the church bell thread:
That's another reason I didn't want to get Hive at first - I like to have as few synths as possible. Now I own/use four and a half (Zebra, Bazille, Hive, Granulator II, Kaivo demo), which is almost too many, but not quite. If u-he had a granular synth I'd possibly switch over, though currently Robert Henke's granulator does not seem to lack anything - a beautiful instrument.
Ain't that the truth. One of the more important aspects of Hive I keep forgetting to mention. I think people, including myself, don't always realise the very high importance of being limited with your toolset. It will usually lead to a hell of a lot more output. Zebra, for example, is capable of much more than Hive, but I jam a lot more often and actually record tons more music nowadays with the latter.Howard wrote:Getting the most out of limited resources is very satisfying, and that's makes Hive so much fun

Don't know if it was mentioned, but is it possible to make Hive have pulse width modulation work for all waveforms?

I have Bazille, I just didn't realize the magic of the 'rnd' funtion on the LFOs! Going to have to give it a try...serhiy06 wrote:Just try Diva or Bazille or Dune or Largo or DCAM Synths or V-Station...or even Virus hahaLuxLucid wrote: I can't imagine what the chaos would sound like after even 8 voices... and if Urs is curious, he will ask you why.
But I fear that because of Hives resource-conscious design, the filters are calculated once for all inputs, not individually.
EDIT: tried the rnd function, and holy crap that's awesome thanks for the tip!
