No, it has always used samples for cymbals. It just used to only have like three of them.LFO8 wrote:What's this about the 'install Attack Samples' option I see in the V2 installer window. I thought Attack was purely a drum synth?

Hi Everyone,
I just got the Waldorf email about the new Waldorf Edition 2. I would love to take advantage of the discount offer, but I want to install Waldorf Edition 2 on a late 2014 Retina iMac, which came loaded with Yosemite. I was waiting for confirmation that Waldorf Edition 1 would run well on the new iMac, and now Waldorf Edition 2 is here!
The details say you must have Waldorf Edition 1 installed in order to install the new version.
Waldorf 1.7.3 is installed on (what is now) my backup '09 iMac.
I never installed 1.7.3 to the Retina iMac because 1.7.3 wasn't deemed compatible when I configured the Retina iMac.
My question, therefore, is how to install Waldorf Edition 2 to the 2014 Retina iMac running Yosemite 10.10.2.
Will this be possible somehow? Thanks for any comments!

I updated from LE to V2. But I have no idea where the sounds are. There are no preset banks anywhere, nor do they show up as loadable in Cubase Pro 8 (browser).

Are you talking about Attack?thejonsolo wrote:I updated from LE to V2. But I have no idea where the sounds are. There are no preset banks anywhere, nor do they show up as loadable in Cubase Pro 8 (browser).
I went from V1->V2. There appears to be a mix of files and folders from both versions on my system, so I am not 100% which files are unique to V2. Anyway, here's what I see in my C:\ProgramData\Waldorf folder (C:\ProgramData is a hidden folder).

The Attack Presets folder (which I think is from V1 only, based on the dates), contains a bunch of kits that I was able to load in Attack V2 using Ableton Live's Load Preset or Bank feature.

Attack is (and has been) one of the weirder plugins I own in terms of how it handles presets. It comes with 10 built-in kits (in the lower section of the Preset > ROM menu). One is just an Init kit, and the other is the randomly generated one though.

But this is just kind of like a hardcoded preset menu. You have to load these kits into an active bank to use them. Again in Ableton Live, the way to do this is select the bank you wish to use in the Select VST Preset menu, then either select one of the built-in kits from the ROM menu, or load a preset file using Live's Load Preset or Bank feature. Below I've got a few banks populated, with three loaded from FXP files and two from the ROM menu.

Crazy stuff. So, I would also like to echo your question: Does V2 actually come with any presets other than the ROM menu stuff? There would HAVE to be some new kits that use all those new samples, yeah? If so, where are they, and how do we load them?
EDIT: Was able to find and load PPG Wave 2.V banks (screenshot), but again, they're all 2008 files, so I imagine they're leftovers from V1?

Yes. Both vst and AU. This is the Attack LE version on OSX Yosemite.

Presets are found at C:\ProgramData\Waldorf on Windows. AFAIK there are no new ones for Version 2 yet (maybe with future updates).UltimateOutsider wrote:Are you talking about Attack?thejonsolo wrote:I updated from LE to V2. You could check my free PPG 2.V bank that i also save d in multiple formats for VST3, AAX and also Bitwig Studio format:
http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... 7&t=418294
I also converted all Waldorf Editiion Presets to different formats which i posted yesterday (the presets also include additional banks/kits for Attack):
I already mentioned to Waldorf that those should be provided as an additional download and hopefully this will be done soon.Ingonator wrote:Like in Waldorf Edition v1 in Waldorf Edition 2 VST3 and AAX plugins (and also for VST2 while usually there this works with the host file browser) you could load fxb/fxp files into the plugin by drag & drop from the File browser (e.g. Windows Explorer) onto the GUI.
Here are the Waldorf Edition presets in different formats for e.g. VST3, AAX and also in Bitwig Studio format (Bitwig uses VST2 but opposing to other hosts does not load/save fxb/fxp files in the host):

The import of fxb/fxp files was done by drag & drop of the files to the GUI from the Windows Explorer.
This needs to start the host without administrator rights. For this in the EXE file or the dektop link for the host in the right-click menu you open the preferences for the EXE ot desktop link and deactivate the "run as administrator" check box.
Here is a screenshot of the preferences for the Cubase 8 64-bit dektop icon where i marked the corresponding part about administrator rights (this is a Windows 7 in german language):

UPDATE:
This info about importing fxb/fxp fies with the Auin OSX isincluded with the "Important Notes" at the beginning of the Installer:
File Import [Mac only]
VST and AudioUnit Instruments use a different file format. To make sure that all sounds and banks can be interchanged between VST and AudioUnit format, we added a File Import feature to the plug-ins.
The plug-ins can import files of the following formats:
- VST FX Program (.fxp)
- VST FX Bank (.fxb)
- AudioUnit Preset (.aupreset)
To import a file on the Attack, follow these steps:
- Select "Import File" from the Edit Menu
- In the Open Dialog, select the file you want to import. If the file is greyed out, make sure that it has the proper suffix of the corresponding file type
- Confirm the selection with OK
To import a file on the D-Pole, follow these steps:
- Shift+Click on the D-Pole logo
- In the Open Dialog, select the file you want to import. If the file is greyed out, make sure that it has the proper suffix of the corresponding file type
- Confirm the selection with OK
Please note that the D-Pole offers no program selection by itself. When you import a VST FX Bank into the AudioUnit variant of it, you can only access the first program that was stored in this bank.
To import a file on the PPG Wave 2.V, follow these steps:
- Shift+Click on the Program button
- In the Open Dialog, select the file you want to import. If the file is greyed out, make sure that it has the proper suffix of the corresponding file type
- Confirm the selection with OK
Location of the Factory Presets
On Mac OS X, the Factory Presets are located in:
/Library/Audio/Presets/Waldorf/
Files with the suffix .fxb or .fxp are VST FX Banks or Programs, files with the suffix .aupreset are AudioUnit presets.

On OSX 10.9.5 if I want to import fxb-files into the new ppg2 from "library/audio/presets/waldorf/ppg2"
the files are greyed out. I cannot load any bank from this location. I´m in Cubase 8.
If I try the same in Logic 10.1.1, Logic crashes.

Did you use the "Import fxb/fxp" feature in Cubase or did you try to load wit hdrag & drop from the file browser (at Windows with the Windows Explorer)?
In the VSt3 the import feature is missing so there it only works with drag & drop (at least here on Windows).
Here with the 64-bit VST2 at Cubase 8.0.10 64-bit on Windows 7 64-bit importing fxb/fxp with both the import feature at Cubase and also with drag & drop from Windows Explorer works without problems.

Okay, drag + drop is working, both PPG2 VST2 and VST3.
OSX 10.9.5 and Cubase 8.0.10.
Mike
nice to know. I forwarded your reports to Waldorf.
As already mentioned i could not find the same problem in Windows.

I first thought it was going to be a vectorial GUI (like the Valhalla ones)... But maybe it's not. But it'd be still nice if they'd include a few different sizes, they're still rather smallish.

Speaking of Attack and sample content, I've come across a huge problem on my system:
Drum kit presets all load and play fine, but changing any "SAMPLE" drum results in a host crash whenever MIDI is sent to it.
To replicate:
1) Load any preset drum kit.
2) Change any drum slot to SAMPLE type.
3) Pull down the list to select new sample.
4) Try playing that drum from your controller; results in crash every time.
Tested with Logic 10.1.1 and Live 9.1.7 on a system running Yosemite 10.10.2.
Preset samples do play as expected until the source is changed. Can anyone else verify this issue on a similar system? Attack is and always has been my go-to source for electronic drums and SFX design, and I would love to experiment with this new direct access to samples!
