It's a feature.
Racks exist independently of tracks.
Take a look at this video:

Thank you for sharing a link to that old, but apropos, training video. :tu:

According to that video, I should be able to create independent instances of a rack filter via a saved preset. In addition to CTRL/Command copying the rack filter to a new track, I believe that I had also created new instances of my rack filter by selecting from the filter menu "Create rack from preset"; I will verify this at my next opportunity and report back my findings to this thread.

One other thing that I remember encountering while creating rack filters was the frustrating behavior after I had just finished deleting the extra inputs and outputs from a plugin in the rack, they would return immediately whenever I would subsequently click that particular plugin in the rack again. Is that normal behavior?

EDIT: Yep, creating independent instances of a rack filter definitely is not possible in T6 (Windows x64) right now. I also noticed that deleting a copy of a rack filter that has extra copies of itself in the edit sometimes causes T6 to crash to desktop. Good news: I was able to confirm that creating independent instances of a rack filter still works in T5 (Windows x64); that is a relief. Also, the problem with extra inputs and outputs not staying deleted is only a bug in T6; it works fine in T5.

If you create a rack filter that contains the EZMix 2 plugin, add it to a track, and save the edit; then the next time you try to open the edit, T6 will crash to the desktop. Also, if you save a rack filter that contains the EZMix 2 plugin as a plugin, it will crash T6 if you try to add it to a track. I did email the T6 crash log to Tracktion support.

Thanks tonedef71, we are looking into the issue with EZMix.

I'm not quite sure what you mean when by this:

You can't delete input and output pins from a plugin, only the input and output channels (pins) of the rack.
Could you provide some exact steps so I can replicate the issue?

If you create a new rack from a preset it does indeed create a new, unique rack type. You should see this as a separate entry in the "new plugin" pop-up menu (under "Create New Empty Rack"). You might want to rename any racks you create to help distinguish them in your Edit.

Hi,

I want a preset view, like Renoise.

For what its worth I am using EZMix2 vst3 in 64 bit windows with no issues at all.
Is your set up different?

UPDATE
I was just lucky.
It's crashing now I've re-launched the program. I could reopen a closed edit.
Sorry for wasting everybody's time . As you were!

UPDATE 2
EZ Keys is no better. Don't have the drums.

Thank you.

My bad. The "extra inputs and outputs" I deleted were the pins from the rack -- not a plugin. They really did return when I clicked one of the plugins in the rack.

I have been trying to remember what exactly I was doing at the time when this behavior happened. Unfortunately, I have not yet been able to retrace my steps and replicate the issue. If I do uncover the issue again, I will do my best to post better instructions on how to replicate it.

I cannot create a distinct, unique instance of a rack preset in T6. I can do so in T5. Seeing is believing...

In this first screenshot, I am in the process of adding a second unique instance of the Wurli Keys rack preset. I perform the same exact procedure in both T5 and T6:

In the following composite image, you can clearly see that T5 ensures that each instance of the rack preset has a unique name (the second instance is appended with the suffix " (2)"); T6, however, uses the very same name for each instance. I placed an input on the first Wurli Keys track and played the MIDI keyboard. You can see in T5 that only the first track is playing the MIDI notes (because the instance of the rack in the first track truly is unique from the instance in the second track); in T6, both the first track and the second track are playing the MIDI notes (because the rack instances are not distinct, unique instances):

Thanks a lot for the detailed information tonedef71, this should be sorted in the next release (6.0.25).

Cheers! Dave

Microtonic VST crashes upon removal from a track every time in 64 bit T6 OSX 10.9.5... AU works without issue. Sometimes if I double click an edit on opening, T6 closes BAM. I'm using both VST and AU plugins in T6 but I would probably use one or theother if they worked consistently. Still testing on my Mac. Quad i7 16 gig of ram.

Hi DHR53, I can't replicate that here, are you using the latest version of T6 (6.0.23) and Microtonic (3.1.1)?
Does this crash in a brand new Edit or just a specific one?

Could you send a crash log to support via the "Help" button on our website? To get the log file open Tracktion, click the "Help" button and then "Show the Tracktion log file".

Cheers, Dave

Mictrotonic VST is 3.1.1 and latest T6 64 bit version 6.0.23... The plugin crashes in exiting all edits AFAIK. I'll send the crash log.

Also, Is there no way to select multiple items in the browser and set tags for them all? I can only tag one thing at a time...

Post

There was a bug that stopped this for audio files. This will be fixed in 6.0.24.

This isn't currently possible for plugins or presets as they use a slightly different tagging system. However, in 6.0.25 we have added a way to add/remove tags form multiple plugins at once from the Plugin settings page.

We are looking to improve the tagging system over time and setting multiple tags for all library items is high on our list.

The master volume resets to -0.91 when opening edits.

Also, the master volume does not save automation. I assume these may be related.

One caveat, if I just close and then re-open Tracktion, it's fine. It's if I close Tracktion and open another program and then come back to Tracktion that these bugs appear. They happen in both Windows and OSX, T-6.0.23.

EDIT: Seems to be fixed in 6.0.25, in record time!
