Scaning plugins?

Hi all, I have for different reasons ;o( been away for a couple of months and may have missed some of the "developments" around here.
SO, last night I downloaded and installed the new version of Tracktion over my old one (winxp) and then it started to scan my pluginfolders..... and that was incredible slow.
OK... I have LOTS of plugs, really LOTS of them, but this was horrible slow. It took nearly 5 min or so and has never done it before. I normally test all new SE plugs by just dropping them in my VST/SE-folder and then starts Tracktion. Totally impossible now ;o(
And yes I know.... I should clean up my plugin folders.
Can someone please enlighten me..... what has happened with the plugin scanning?
I also noted that when I selected my projects it took a fair amount of more time to open it up.
regards/falke

I'm not sure what's going on. Scanning shouldn't be any slower than it was a few builds back (which is about all you've missed). At least, I haven't noticed any drop in speed.
The slow opening of edits (presumably edits with plugins in?) also seems strange. It sounds like one or more of your plugins are taking a very long time to initalize themselves. Whether that's Tracktion related, plugin related, or something fun about your system, I couldn't begin to say.
FWIW, I've been having games with sfz remembering the last opened sound font, only it seems to like to remember a particularly heavy piano sf2, and that is causing me something similar to what you are describing, simply because sfz wants to load this huge soundfont before it'll let me do anything else.

yeah ive had this
basically when im working on a plug now i just create a test folder and turn the rest off in tracktion
this way i can test the plug and it doesnt take long to boot
i notived this a couple a weeks ago and just thought my drive needeed a defrag
being a lazy bastard i didnt defrag so i just carried on
but it definatly is doing more now than before in the plug scan
personally i think this is a good thing
just a pain in the arse for developers
:)

ya know trying to be a sblive
and using too much cpu doing it
the only reason i ask is im thinkin of doin a rack bitz font player

I don't have that much use for it, but I like it.Rack Bitz wrote:hey valley do you actually like sfz?
Well given that it is *entirely* soundfont.i find it a bit too soundfont
It can be a little high on cpu, but the quality is really very very good. If you want cheap and dirty sounding soundfont players there are plenty to choose from though.ya know trying to be a sblive

I'd be more likely to see if I could extend the Tracktion sampler if I were you. SF is pretty much done and dusted IMVthe only reason i ask is im thinkin of doin a rack bitz font player

That's one of the great features I like about Podium; it won't rescan your VST folder everytime you add a plugin. It will only import the plugins you tell it to. I wish Tracktion would incorporate that feature.

You mean the "Re-scan for only new or updated plugins" feature, or disabling the scan entirely if you know you haven't added new ones?
<puzzled>
Rack Bitz-- sfz is a fairly sophisticated program, and does an excellent job of what it does. With the addition of the sfz format for mapping, it now goes beyond sf2 and allows you to do layered mappings of .wav and .aiff (I believe) files, as well. If you haven't checked it out lately, you really should. Not that I wouldn't like to see your Rack Bitz Player, but I think you'll find that there are new and exciting things coming from rgc:audio with regard to sfz, and frankly it'll be hard to come close to their level of sophistication and excellence of playback engine without some SERIOUS work.

The only long scan I had was the first one. I have a lot of high end programs and it scanned them all, actually I had it scan my whole C drive.
It took a while but it then put them in don't scan again folder.
I then turned off the scan everytime Traction starts in the hope I will remember to turn it back on if I install any more programs or vst's.
Traction has all I need......

Exactly the way to do it. Anybody sitting through a 5-minute scan each time is doing something wrong.

The whole C drive?! Didn't every dll (apart from plug) on the system show up as an ignored plug?CharlieSolak wrote:The only long scan I had was the first one. I have a lot of high end programs and it scanned them all, actually I had it scan my whole C drive.
