Yeah, I have to say that as much as I love the sound of XILS lab synths, I feel they kind of fall down when they try to make it look too much like the original. PolyKB is like that for me a bit. It's not that complicated a synth... but for some reason it looks like it is.Lejurai wrote:Damn this is niceThough I have to complain about two thing.. Ahem.. Here it goes. The buttons are black. I can get them visible by turning screen so bright that it hurts my eyes so a bit unusable. Maybe gray buttons or nice led shiny blue? Heck.. Give me pink buttons but no black ones on black background please. Another thing really bugging me is the sequencer. I'd appreciate either noob mode or 303 style EASY sequencer that is EASY to program. And when I press a key to launch the sequence, I hear both, the key pressed and the random tune sequence -_-
But yea.. Will buy this anywayBut please Xils, consider some easy mode or optional style that could be selected in options menu?

So what exactly is the 'new tech' regarding pwm? Maybe someone from xils can say whats 'new' in this method.Lotuzia wrote:The answer to his question is simply : Nosfd wrote:@Kriminal - I believe Lotuzia gave an answer to that question.
Thanks.

Hi everybody,
First thank to all the kind words I read about the miniSyn'X.
We will try to take into account some of the remarks about GUI and sequencer !
About this new algorithm, here are some explanation.
When you are modulating a oscillator with an other one (FM, PWM, hard sync ) all you have to do is keeping to work at the sample level. So far, nothing new under the Sun !
But if this modulated oscillator is also modulating the oscillator which is modulating itself, then you will get problems. That's the new algorithm.
The two oscillator are computed at the same time without a delay between the both modulation. This is the key for the laser Harp sound, based on the Synthex specific PWM mode and the hard synchronisation : OSC 1 Pulse is cross-modulated with OSC 2 which is hard synchronized by OSC 1.
But this algorithm is also very important when both oscillators are using the specific PWM feature or Ring-Mod
I hope this helps for a better understanding of the words we choose for this algorithm.
How we named it are words, but the algorithm is real and much than useful.
Best regards
Xavier

More or less what I expected. Thanks for the explanation! I just like to know what I'm listening for. Off to play with the demo again.

Thank you. I understand that current style sequencer has its fans but for me it's just too..xavier wrote:We will try to take into account some of the remarks about GUI and sequencer !
Anyways. I have to praise the chorus. It's so juicy that I find myself just playing some chord for five minutes eyes closed and listening that chorus sound

Can I just say I've had a couple of weird freezes. Audio buffer froze, Cubase locked up, but it wasn't a system crash, I could alt+delete a couple of times and the plugin unlocked.
First time happened about 7 minutes in.
Second time happened about 1 minute in.
Both times happened when I was fiddling with the oscillator settings on both oscillators, with sync, pulse, x-PWM and ringmod being switched on and off. I'm running Windows 7 64-bit, Cubase 32-bit, no other programs running.
May have been a one-off (or two-off), see if any other reports of freezing come in.

Not too interested in the synth itself but, just wanted to say thanks for doing another synth w/serial protection. If this ever happens with the Kobol, I'll be on it like white on rice.

The Synthex Chorus was especially good. It's a BBD chorus, and in Double mode you have a dual chorus like on the original, with two LFOs running simulatneously. Which makes it thick.Lejurai wrote:Thank you. For the Sequencer, I agree it's a quite vintage one. So the question I think is 'what can it add that any standard daw can do ?' It can have up to 128 steps, and be synced to host tempo. A few things that it can do, and would be hard to make in a Daw : It has 4 gates ( one per track ), and you can automate these gates via Midi Ccs in real time. It can lead to creative things when recorded or overdubbed. The rotate function is also real time, and it will move all the notes one step forward. So you can make some kind of polyryhmic patterns where the notes are coninuously evolving evolving. You can have also note microshift, so non exactly tuned notes, wich can add life, or complete mess to a sequence, live, or just as it. You can also add/delete note in real time while playing the sequence. The one shot s also handy to launch some very fast arpeggios that will play only once when you want in a track for example, its easier to control than a very fast arpegiiator, not countingthat the notes will play in the order expected.
SOooo, All these functions are a bit experimental, but for those who like unusual sequences, or tweaking the sequences live you can have good fun with it.

I had a few similar bugs when operating the MiniSynx. Very rare, but a few ones in hundreds of hours. I think Xils fixed a bug regarding odf Pwm before the v 1.0, and for me after that it was ok. But your experiments puts the focus on the repeated and extensive use of these parameters, so maybe there's still something there.Sendy wrote:Can I just say I've had a couple of weird freezes. It will very probably happen. Xils 3 le, Oxium, the MiniSyn'x and PKB Player are serial ony. Xils3, Xils 4, and now the Syn'X 1.xcan use soft Ilok ( No dongle required ) protection. I can't see why the PolyKB would not follow in the more/less near future.GruvSyco wrote:Not too interested in the synth itself but, just wanted to say thanks for doing another synth w/serial protection. To clarify; does that mean Xils 4, Syn'X 2 and PolyKB II would all become serial protected?Lotuzia wrote:It will very probably happen. Xils 3 le, Oxium, the MiniSyn'x and PKB Player are serial ony. No. it means that they all ( Xils 4, Xils 3, Syn'X, Vocoder 5000 ) already can, or will (PolyKB ) , benefit of the soft ilok protection, which means no physical dongle required, ad is a bit similar to NI C/R response protection for example. Like Ni C/R protection scheme, I see this as an intermediate step between the serial only protected synths, like MiniSyn'X and the only physical dongled protected synths, like the PolyKB at the moment we speak together : you dont nedd a physical dongle, but its not a serial either.atukao wrote:To clarify; does that mean Xils 4, Syn'X 2 and PolyKB II would all become serial protected?Lotuzia wrote:It will very probably happen.
