Also occurred to me that rather than add a separate tempo track- it might be easier just to have "tempo change markers" on the existing marker track - that would be fine for me - they could just be a different colour maybe?

Me too. I would really appreciate a consolidation of tempo markers and locators. Different functionality, but same gui management. More intuitive.

For that matter it would be fine if I could mark locators and parts for reposition them as a whole at the timeline, for example when inserting an "intermezzo" relating all tracks. Today I have to reposition each locator separately after shifting the parts.

If you use the Insert Time Slice function that's all done in 1 step. Note that Insert Time Slice takes the part selection into account so you can apply it on a single selected part too.
