How about an FX step sequencer along the lines of Effectrix or Glitch? Should be pretty easy to implement (spoken as a non-coder) and would make Hive appeal to the wub wub wobble wobble crowd!

That sounds like something they try to fit into the Arp+Step, rather than a whole new hexagon.ariston wrote:How about an FX step sequencer along the lines of Effectrix or Glitch? What I enjoy about about Spire is that it's all nested, so it can have it's small size, but no lack on features. Hive is trying to keep everything on literally just a single screen, and I understand that...but there's eventually a lack of space, and in fairness, it's already nested to a degree by having three hexagons in the first place.
Personally, I don't see any problem in going further with that. It doesn't slow my usage of Spire at all having to click tabs. As long as it's arranged creatively, like Zebra Redux for instance, there shouldn't be a problem.

No way, not enough room.Shiek927 wrote:That sounds like something they try to fit into the Arp+Step, rather than a whole new hexagon.ariston wrote:How about an FX step sequencer along the lines of Effectrix or Glitch? Like the FX presets but more.
Preset for the osc.
Preset for the filters.
Preset for the ENV & LFO
Preset for MM1
Preset for MM2
Random preset button for all sections.
I also suggested this, but you put it so much better.

It can, with nesting.ariston wrote:No way, not enough room.Shiek927 wrote:That sounds like something they try to fit into the Arp+Step, rather than a whole new hexagon.ariston wrote:How about an FX step sequencer along the lines of Effectrix or Glitch? That was my point with my previous point: with creativity, there can be additional tabs to fit in new features. Zebra is chock full of them.

There's already a step sequencer to control FX or anything in the form of the CC (map Seq CC control to FX parameters via mod matrix) and Velocity lanes (if you have velocity affecting an FX parameter). Another CC lane would be very cool though. Move the Dynamic Velocity and Seq Preset buttons to a drop-down menu which would make room for one more CC lane (8 steps x 2 space-wise). And remove the step labeling of 1 - 16 to add another lane.
My vote for the hexagon:

Yes, that could be enough and still the guys without a good controller keyboardaMUSEd wrote:Yes, if you want to add controls for these then add an extra assignable wheel next to the keyboard.zvenx wrote:But for those of us who expressly bought a keyboard that allows AT, Breath and Expression, this is wasted for us.....
I definitely think it makes more sense to put something that can benefit everyone.
rsp
could also try those stuff one by one.
But if the horizontal stripe above the keyboard would only lit when programmed to do something in a patch, would work
as an indicator to TOUCH ME i am here.
I guess Howard want to adress the "beginners" with those easy access for soft controllers.
By the way i was in a music store lately and deeply surprised by the terrible quality of those
little controller keyboards they are selling.
I was thinking to buy one if i am travelling.
No way. Even some recognisable named companies producing controllers like they are already
broken and want to fall apart.
By looking at the pictures they looks like ok to play with, just don't touch them

How about tutorials for those new to synth programming? Six icons that, when clicked, lead to articles with videos on different topics:
1. Oscillators
2. Filters
3. Envelopes
4. LFOs
5. Routing
6. Linking modulation sources and targets
Hive is a great synth that's fairly easy to program but currently short on tutorials compared to certain other synths. It would be nice to see more people learning the magic and creating new sounds for everyone.

First: not the same at all (to begin with, you'd need 10 of these). Second: too complicated to set up. That's the beauty of something like Effectrix - simplicity and instant gratification. Kinda like what Hive stands for. A grid makes this easy, and yes, you would need the entire hexagon for that. No "nesting" and for Pete's sake no more drop-down menus or dragable numbers.tedlogan wrote:There's already a step sequencer to control FX or anything in the form of the CC (map Seq CC control to FX parameters via mod matrix) and Velocity lanes (if you have velocity affecting an FX parameter).

Urs I'd like a Cryogenic Timewarp Transform Pod (CTTP) where I can be frozen and revived young and beautiful 100 years from now. Thanks

Yes, the CC lane is only one lane, so you'd have to mix all your FX steps being modulated in this single channel, or use only one FX parameter.ariston wrote:First: not the same at all (to begin with, you'd need 10 of these). But it's extremely easy to set up though. Since I don't have a breath controller and probably won't for a long time, I have my defaut mod patch saved - Breath as Source in the matrix , and Breath being the Seq CC controller.
Now it's simply a case of drag n drop selecting any parameters for Depth 1 and 2 to step modulate. A controller is recommended to edit the values of the steps though. I use Push for this. I imagine something like Beatstep would be great for this as well.
On the one hand I like your idea, but on the other I don't want too many options in Hive - the limits boost my creativity massively I've found - patches are bursting forth by the second, whereas with Zebra and Bazille they flow gently.
But, if the third hexagon is filled with 10 quick-setup mod lanes, I wouldn't complain
