Hi,
I'm new to the forum but I already read quite a bit about the Receptor here and also in the http://www.plugorama.com/kb.php (http://www.plugorama.com/kb.php) knowledge base. So far, I couldn't find any info with respect to my problem so, I thought here might be the right place to address it.
I recently purchased a Receptor VIP second hand and besides some other issues (which maybe I'll post here later), I have a problem with the installation of a Windows VST plug-in "B4 II" (version 2.0.4.1). As I don't have a "receptorized" installer, I tried with the "unsupported" installation method described in the "Receptor v1.2 User’s Guide". According to the knowledge base http://www.plugorama.com/kb.php?id=81 (http://www.plugorama.com/kb.php?id=81), the plug-in version of my "B4 II" should be supported. I made the following:
1) Connecting the Receptor to my router and choose the Receptor’s IP in Windows Explorer on my laptop (Win 7 / 64 Bit)
2) Copy the file "B4 II.dll" from the laptop to the Receptors folder <Program Files/VST Plugins/Unsupported Plugins>
3) Click the SETUP tab in Receptor’s graphical user interface (with the option "Include Unsupported Plugins" ticked) and push “Install 1 File”
4) Error message appeared: “B4 II: still no tonewheel files found! Please install the B4 again”
5) I pressed “OK” on the error message window and then the next error message appeared: “B4 cannot find the default file 'def.b4a'. Please locate it in order to use the default presets!”
6) I copied the tonewheel files and the default file into the same folder as mentioned in step 2) and repeated step 3).
7) Error messages from step 4) and 5) appeared again. In the folder of step 2) there is a new file named “B4 II.dll-FAILED”.
I tried the procedure several times and I always got the same error messages. It seems that the Receptor doesn’t recognize the tonewheel and default files or it is looking in a different folder? I have no idea how to proceed as there are just too many possibilities – trial and error is definitely not the right approach…
Any help would be highly appreciated!
Many thanks & best regards
J.O.

Well, I can't speak to the VIP, but on my Receptor 2 I downloaded the latest B4II setup file from Native Instruments. It's a full install, not a patch.

Dropped that .exe into the "Drop Installers Here" folder and ran it from the Setup screen. Followed the installer prompts.

Then ran NI Service Center in offline mode and followed the authorization procedure (see Muse KB on this).

Worked just fine.

So, try the .exe instead of the .dll and see if that does it.

Hi J.O.

Argh. Wish you would have sent a help desk ticket to us, as a VIP is a newer model, and all you have to do is take the .exe installer file, drag it into drop installers here, and run the windows installer from the Software manager. That's all there is to it, we install it often, and it works every time.

Dragging DLLs and using the unsupported into the unsupported folder is ONLY required when a plugin does not have an installer, B4 II definitely has an installer, and will install easily on your VIP by just copying the windows installer into the Drop installers here folder and running that installer.

Sorry for the confusion.

Hi John and Bryan,

Many thanks for your kind support. I tried with the .exe installer as Bryan described, but unfortunately it didn't work out. The file was in the "installed" folder, but the plug-in was not available in the mixer. I'm not sure whether there's something wrong with my VIP as there are many more errors I'm receiving. Just to mention a few:
- Muse Remote Control is losing connection with the host PC all the time and even crashes
- Error message with Komplete plug-in (Massive)
- VIP can't be registered at the plugorama.com
- etc.
I'm starting to believe that the former owner maybe did some improper installations. Is there any possibility to re-install the operating system and start with the installation of new plug-ins from scratch? What is your recommendation? Ordering a help desk ticket? Besides of that: what is the status of the Receptor-installer for Komplete 10?

Any help is much appreciated, thanks.
J.O.

You are likely in 64-bit mode, and what I've noticed is that when the Validate Plugins routine run, it typically validates the B4 FX dll, and then skips the B4 instrument dll.

So open up the Software manager, select "Validate Ignored", let it populate the list of plugins, select the B4 instrument plugin (the one that does not say FX) and I believe it will appear and you'll be ready to authorize it.

Be sure to update the plugin thumbnail by opening up the UI, and selecting "update plugin thumbnail" in the top left hand corner.

You're almost there!
