----One thing, are you guys aware of the bug with the Link button feature not working when you configure parameters for midi control in Ableton? If I enable link and turn the filter freq. with the mouse it works but not with the midi controller.

Urs this synth is AMAZING! I just got the beta about 2 weeks ago and I've already purchased and it's my favorite bread and butter synth already. Thanks a lot!!

Wonderful ^__^. You've said before that you'd like to add Sync and FM, but it's great to hear it once more. That would definitely expand Hive's panoply, especially on the digital side. Now, if only we can get a Ring-Mod to go with thatUrs wrote:Well, I did a lot of tests using some sort of PadSynth algorithm to create Supersaw-esque timbres based on overtone clusters. I want to continue those experiments and see if something useful for Hive comes out of it.moolzel wrote:Hi Urs.
I love Hive as it is so far. Personally, I would love to be able to drag and drop any third-party single cycle waveform into the OSCs sections in Hive, but I guess that won't be the case.
However, you say that you'll add more waveforms. Could you please reveal how many, approximately? About two or three, o many more? I'm just curious.
I mean, a bunch of single-cycle waveforms would be thrown in easily, but they'd be static and somewhat boring. I'd much rather add some waveforms that are organic, wide and complex.
In addition I'd like to add Sync and FM functionality to the Suboscs.
Unique waveforms are definitely much more interesting! Bazille also can work in overtones. While I don't think those supersaw-esque timbres are necessarily the same thing, it adds more individuality to Hive than static waveforms. Especially since Hive is capable of organic textures as we've seen now.
I don't know if you intend to give Hive any Formant capabilities (you can already squeeze out Vowels with the flanger if you set it just right. Spire has Vowel settings, but I don't think they are required for vocals) and/or a comb-filter, but some vocals in those waveforms would certainly be interesting.

I wonder why the interface is soo spread out.
The synth could be made much simpler and have a much better view. Sure it looks fancy,
but i just want something really pleasing to look at and not distract from routing system.
A big minus to modulation matrix. it is really big and clumsy but yet so small screens showing text.
Something that show alot of information is spires modulation matrix.
Another minus is actually that you cant see whats routed if you dont go into modulation matrix.
Serum you can tell how it move and stuff and massive also. A big visual help especially if you want to
look on how other patches is routed.
Another minus is that i cant select phase for sub or have it as seperate oscillator not controlled like a sub osc. I think of sylenth1 here.
Really nice job with sound quality, but that interface is just damn distracting
To much cluttering, i hope this will be much more simple and straightforward to look at.

Hmm....I don't see how the layout could get anymore simple. I love the way it's laid out. Just my 2 cents. And I think he already said phase for sub osc is coming. I would hardly say not having graphical responding envelopes is a "minus", that's really cool in Serum but that's like the only synth that does this as far as I know. You act as if it's a standard feature in every synth? This is still a beta.ronnyrydgren wrote:I wonder why the interface is soo spread out.

Well the design is really futuristic. By taking away slot of the neat look you will get a simpelt view. Sylenth1 is an great example of that. I didnt mean the synth have to have like serum, it can also have like massive so you can se what is routed-DRASTiC- wrote:Hmm....I don't see how the layout could get anymore simple. Eagerly awaiting the Linux build. (hint hint)
In regards to the recent interface comments: I really like the interface of Hive - I find it very intuitive, in fact the interface was an important factor when I decided for my first U-He synth.

My favourite interface of any synth so far is Hive. I like flashy, and I find it almost perfectly laid-out. Everything is so quick to do - the workflow is unmatched. I do prefer the previous Photoshop-made incarnation over the new 3D model-based one though.
Animations indicating modulated parameters would be cool though - and I think it's being considered. I quite like how Bitwig represents it.

yes i prefer the old look too it was one of the main reasons i brought hive that and the sound . The knobs are really dark now . the old style knobs looked better imo please change back to the old design :} i love the futuristic, alien, look

I'm completely happy with its evolution so far. I'm also happy that I can say that.

I really hope so, I love the visual feedback of Bitwig's devices...that is probably the best example I've seen. I've also demoed Serum and think that is a great example of visual feedback as well. I also like how Massive makes it obvious at a glance what controls are being modulated with colorful bands...maybe not the sexiest look but certainly very helpful for sound design workflow and reverse-engineering patches to learn how they were created. I'm a very visual person, as much visual as auditory, and I find that I'm most creative when I can use both senses together.tedlogan wrote:Animations indicating modulated parameters would be cool though - and I think it's being considered. Anything that can be added to where it's easy to see what controls have been modulated by what amounts would make Hive the bee's knees for me...I'd especially love some Bitwig-style animation.
I don't really have a problem with the mod matrix as-is, it's certainly much better laid out than SynthMaster and I really appreciate the on/off switches. I'm happy to see softsynths moving away from the UI trend to just mimick hardware synths and instead focus on what makes software great.
I think having multiple themes would be nice also.
~ good luck ~

Feature request for Hive: A key tracking option for the EQ frequencies.
This is a feature I wish all synths with EQ sections would have, but I'm not aware of any that do.
Edit: Nevermind, just realized that the EQ settings are assignable mod destinations. Cool!

Hi Urs,Urs wrote: The cutoff value reflects the filter frequency in terms of MIDI Notes. It's consistent across all u-he synths. However, this started out in our more geeky offerings, where cutoff goes down pretty low (0.00). Recent synths such as Diva, TyrellN6 and Hive start at 30.00 to keep inside a more usable range.
More descriptive EQ frequency values are on our list, but I can't yet say when we're there.

Could you give a bit more detail on how the freq cutoff works? I looked in the Hive manual and it doesnt describe how the MIDI notes are connected to freq values.
Hive is the only U-He product I have so this is my first encounter with this type of filtering.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed the 'descriptive EQ' values makes it in for the release

I absolutely agree that more visual-reference, the better. I don't like the sound, or wavetable synthesis all that much honestly, but Serum is exceptional in how visual and easy to use. Especially the mod-matrix ^__^.
