Hehehe, and there's another factor:

Synths that are actively developed and that constantly sell well have an advantage for sound designers: There's always a target audience that has just bought the synth for the first time. So they're not packed with all the old soundbanks.

(that said, I'm not sure if I have a good example of a synth that has once sold massively but not so much today...)

Don't get me wrong, I love Hive (sold my roommate on it), Bazile etc. but as you know I started on Zebra when it was beta and it's a total staple for me.

If I was smart I would have written a sound bank for it a long time ago... or at least updated the ones I did for V1 to 2 like you asked.

To this day, if someone is Using Live Suite or Logic and say they have all bases pretty much covered I mention Zebra.

Pretty amazed the numbers for Bazille are fairly close to DIVA . I assumed DIVA would have outsold Bazille by a much larger factor . Great there are so many users (potential customers) out there .

Yeah, it's quite interesting. OTOH Bazille had been in "alpha" for much longer than Diva exists. So it might have found its friends over a pretty long period.

Bazille fills the need for a modular plugin that a) doesn't have serious flaws or caveats and b) is likely to make the next round of OS upgrades.

Surprised by the Diva figures there, would have expected them to be a little bit higher as it's a completely amazing synth. People are clearly missing out. Go get it!

Personally, I'm not surprised at all.

DiVA is good at "THAT" certain sound but it seems (to me) that Zebra has infinite sound sculpting capabilities.
and I'm speaking from user standpoint, not sound designer. the fact that Hans Zimmer uses Zebra also helps (heck, I bought Zebra after hearing so many times the music theme from "Inception"... that simple, yet so recognizable preset... that evocative, mesmerizing preset... I just could NOT stand aside

).

IMO, Bazille's numbers would rise rapidly as more "quirky" presets will be made (strange sequences and so on)...

Ouch... too soon man... too soon...

Diva, well it's a piece of fine art there. It may have less modulation features than Zebra but most of that can be done from the DAW if needed.

Kinda highlights how good an idea an extended alpha / beta stage is . If someone doesnt gel with an instrument after the first demo period , they can always come back throughout any stage of the alpha / beta development , and perhaps on the 2nd or 3rd go with the instrument , it might click for them . Very interesting.....

Call me a cynic, but I think the true reason for Bazille's success is that the contents of the oscilloscope in the official screenshot looked great

Wasn't Bazille released just a couple of months ago? and already 3500+ licenses sold? Respect! 2014 must've been a pretty good year for u-he financially. When's your IPO? I want some shares!

I think 2014 accounts for roughly a quarter of all u-he licenses sold.

It's not nearly at a point where I'd consider a public offering though
