Well, Logic on the other hand doesn't cost you 599EUR (anymore), or has crazy upgrade prices (Logic 8 to a 35GB+ strong Logic Pro 9 release was also 199EUR) and/or less-than-yearly "upgrade fees" (50 euro bucks for .5, and then 150 euro bucks for .0 again). Last "paid upgrade" for the host was Jul 2013, after over 4 years of Logic 9 without any extra fees. "Disimprovements" for all hosts in question is a completely different topic.

At least Steinberg stopped to ask "sending in the LPT key". Man that was fun back in the days - think about it if USB key systems are really so evil as always depicted.

But back on topic...

ProTools costs a sh*tload of money as well (599+ EUR), but has a demo from day 1
Presonus Studio One Professional (399EUR), has a demo from day 1
Kudos also to all other companies offering demos on day 1 (if you hype it, people should be able to test it - period!)

Steinberg seems to collaborate with Cakewalk. Their demos are also postponed by 4 months. But what eludes me is the fact that once Cubase x.5 hits, a demo is out within 1,5 months.

So I don't really understand where the problem is?!

Again, i think the most important point is that you neither have to buy it, nor is one single customer very important for Steinberg, so they probably won't change the business model for you. But of course, feel free to complain further... this is a free place innit... please note though that this thread was specifically about this update, and you're making it a general thread against Steinberg's business model again, because of your own experiences and opinion.

I didn't start with the comparison this time around. Only stated where Steinberg could still catch up after the comparison got brought up. Nothing "general" going on here, just pointing out an issue that's existing for years at this point.

A good craftsman would also love to test them first before talking negative about them.

Can't help but I dislike this Elements 8 even more than Element 7.
I could not make it through a full project in 7 last summer, and have not intention in 8 either after trying it. You have to be a masochist to work in Cubase.

Is this rigid environment supposed to be an update?
You cannot move anything, three fixed blobs that you can choose to put away - that is all.

First thing I encounter is that my perfect Aero skin was not allowed - and I had to make a new one to even start CE8. New skin, same settings, but old not recoqnized as Aero or something.

How are you to choose specific skins, almost, to run software - what is that?
It's just as bad with a video game I tried once, that I had to set xbox to 60 Hz framerate for it to work.
Steinberg is not far behind those guys.

And starting Cubase - it stays there forever doing to progress rotation symbol - until I found if I went up with mouse once over main menubar, it stopped. So I could after waiting 7 minutes finally load a project. I thought it was scanning plugins or something showing busy symbol.

Common things like scanning plugins are hidden away even more, to these tiny little settings buttons in corners. But compared to 7 which I could not add a 4th plugin path, it worked now, so I got all plugins in there without modifying locations on disc - but I really had to look before I found the settings for it.

Inspector still cannot keep two sections open at the same time, even though plenty space for that.
Look for some pinned thing, but never found one. I would like both sends and inserts to be shown as expanded. Still have to click around to see what is there.

One things I liked, if it was new don't know, that mixer console now rests in Windows taskbar if minimized. Easy to fold up and down. And overview of sends and inserts were good in mixer.

I keep Cubase Elements updated only to be able and fix vocals if I need with Waves Tune. It does not work in Sonar, and €20 is nothing being up to date.

Hi, cheapskate here! I'm still offered the chance to upgrade my cubase AI 7 to elements 7 for 29 quid. if I get it now, is that still 'within the grace period' for the free upgrade?

Alright, nevermind that part then. I'd still give the demo a go though, especially if you think S1 version 3 could "blow it out of the water".

Which i personally think a lot has to be improved in S1 for that to happen. It has some stuff it does better than Cubase, but it also has quite a few things it does worse IMO. Not to mention i generally prefer Cubase's GUI to any other host out there. Like Wavelab, it just "makes sense" for me.

I have spent few hours with Elements 8. It is nicer/better than version 7 overall.

Love 2 things mostly, the new Chords Pads and Groove Agent SE 4

The new Chords Pads has a Circle of fifths! It was the nicest surprise as I wanted to buy something like that (EZ Keys or similar). This is an excellent feature for someone like me learning Music Theory slowly but at the same time want to expand the basic knowledge of scales and chords. Great for composing as well.

for Steinberg. I'm thinking now of saving money for the Cubase 8 Pro

Groove Agent SE 4 is a great beat machine. It is completely different from the previous version and has nice features (envelopes, slice, midi fx ..etc). There are also a good number of patterns and has also nice drug and drop midi patterns into/from it to build a user patterns. Very nice indeed. It has its own manual which says about "Acoustic Agent SE" that I couldn't find in MediaBay! Can anyone find it with the Elements 8? I have only "Beat Agent SE"

I can with the mouse anyway, but it would be nice if it has a shortcut like the Inspector (Alt+ i). The performance seems slightly better than 7. I didn't have any problem in stability yet, but it seems well put and solid.

After all I would definitely upgrade to Elements 8 even if the price is the same like I paid last year from Elements 6 to 7 (was $50). Now for only $19?! That's insane and it is sure the best money I have spent this year

There is one: Alt + T to open the racks and then Alt + Cmd + T to toggle.

Guillermo, are there any plans to change the bahvior of the main Cubase window, when trying to close it over the X button up right? The way it is now, whether the main window is maximized, or in window mode, when you click the X, it closes the project window, but the window panel, with the Cubase menus in it, stays open, only the panel, and you can see the desktop below it, until you clicked X another time, then that panel closes too. I don't know if it's a bug or the intended behavior, but it's pretty weird.

Funny thing I just explained this 2sec ago on a different forum...
It is intended behaviour since Cubase Pro 8 there isn't a main program window like it used to be in Cubase 7, it now behaves like on a Mac where if you close the project page the software it's still there until you close it. It is not a bug.

It is already there, Cubase Elements 8 is the same installer as Cubase LE8 and Cubase AI8, it just depends on what license you have.
In case you are wonderind; Can I upgrade from AI/LE 7 to Cubase AI8? No, it is not posible.
