Does Tracktion work well with Dropbox?

One issue that's come up for me with DropBox has been related to Excel but the same might be true for Tracktion. I was working on a big spreadsheet saved into my DropBox folder and Excel would periodically refuse to save it. My guess is that it had to do with files getting locked due to DropBox copying behind the scenes. I'm not 100% sure that was the problem, but since I moved the spreadsheets out of DropBox there have been no issues.
Surely there must be consensus by now...

Some years back I was using a torrent prog with an external drive. Something happened - not sure what, but I think it may have gone into sleep mode or something. Result was that all files on the drive were corrupted. Got a collection of about 7 external drives now. I have a NAS one as well.
I have doubts about cloud storage. Don't much want to trust my data to someone else. Maybe okay for backup purposes.

Yes that's exactly why I have multiple layers of backups - Time Machine, another 2 HDs for plugin installers, sample ZIPS etc, and then Dropbox on top of that (more for work files, pdfs etc that I also want to access from my work computer, laptop and iPad).jabe wrote:Some years back I was using a torrent prog with an external drive. Like some of you, I've always been suspicious about Cloud storage. I can't really explain it. It's not that I don't trust the company to treat my files with care, it's just that I don't trust the whole concept to work; at least not as flawlessly as it would without cloud synchronization.
However, a few months ago I bought Adobe Premiere Pro, and was offered to store everything to their cloud service, Creative Cloud. And since my video editing isn't as critical (or dearly, perhaps) as my music making, I decided to go for it. And I must say it's been such a blessing. You know, not having to store your work to different hard drives every night; not having to WORRY about "did I really save my work tonight?" and all that jazz.
But some of you seem to have experienced some problems with Dropbox, and that's just not good enough (although the majority seem to have only good things to say about it). Frankly, I still don't dare to work on a Tracktion file synced to DB. So I guess in this Tracktion case, I'll continue to save it on external hard drives, but ALSO on Dropbox, as a safety copy, in case of a fire, or whatnot. The actual main files, however, will still be on my main hard drive to work on. At least for now.

I mentioned it before, but Dropbox is actually very good if you accidentally corrupt a file, because it stores multiple versions of all your files.
It's not exposed in a way I can find in the desktop client version of Dropbox, but login at http://www.dropbox.com , go to one of your files, and right click it in the web browser, and you get an option for "Previous versions".
You can then restore back an earlier saved version of your file, should it get corrupt on your local laptop, or however.
So this is likely actually better than you saving your files to multiple locations locally, NAS, USB drive etc, unless you have some kind of version control system on those devices.

chico.co.uk: Okay, I've thought this through (once again), and you're right. Dropbox do offer a lot of things that external hard drives does not. So, with my next project, I'm going to store it on Dropbox. You've convinced me.
