Question About The "Active Channels" function?

Since the "active channels" function defaults to neither the left or right channel buttons being highlighted when both stereo channels are active, what channel am I seeing when I select one or the other? If I select and highlight either the left or right button, am I seeing the channel that is now highlighted, or am I seeing the channel that is then un-highlighted?

Example. If I click on and highlight the "left" button, am I seeing the left channel, or am I seeing the right channel? Do the buttons act as select buttons, or more like mute buttons?

Since both channels show when neither the left or right buttons are selected, I'm inclined to think that when I select the left or right channel buttons, I'm seeing the opposite of whatever button I've selected/highlighted. So it seems to me that if I select the "left" button, I'm now seeing the right channel wave form in the clip and vice versa.

Is this correct?

Yes, on default both channels are selected. If you click one, you deselect it and therefore the wave shows only the other channel.
