Very High Levels When Recording My Guitar...

I just upgraded from Tracktion 3, so I am still feeling some things out, but I whenever I try to record my guitar the levels are absurdly high.

I even get signal with my interface turned all the way down!

What's frustrating is that it was super easy to get the sound I wanted dialed in on Tracktion 3. I just picked what amp (actual, physical amp) I wanted to use, the guitar I was going to play, and stuck the mic right in front of the grill of the amp. I could hear the tone I was getting through the headphones and it recorded the way it sounded on the headphones.

Now, whenever I try to record using the aforementioned method, I get a ton of noise and levels that are unimaginably loud.

What can I do to fix this?

Have you tried lowering the input gain on the audio device settings page?

Yes, this is something you may have done way back with T3 and forgotten about; now T5 or T6 will be at default again. You can do it in the settings at the bottom when you select the audio input device for the track - just dial back on the gain there. Default is that you can see the big levels at the bottom, to make it easier.
