Ruling does not imply killing ;)
It gives the competition more impetus to grow. Hence, we all enjoy better and better instruments.
Behold the Hive king!

As for blank UI spaces... we will need that and we want to keep the option to add/move something once we fulfill feature requests.
Definitely but I suggested visual feedback since 2-3 months ago and I always prefer to let the user decide optional how well his hardware is like in games. Better more options than not of course improved options which are working hehe :phones:

I like Massive, that's why I bought it. I also like Hive, which is why I bought it too. Limiting yourself to a single synth can be a great creative strategy, you don't have to look any further than the monthly One-Synth Challenge to see evidence of this. But when it comes to sound design different tools shine in different areas. Sometimes you get in a creative rut trying to design a particular sound and all it takes is opening up a different synth to get un-stuck. While it's generally better to master the tools you currently have at your disposal than to get caught up in the never-ending cycle of gear acquisition syndrome, there's no real need to force yourself to stay on one particular path. As excited as I am about Hive, I'm not going to stop using Massive or SynthMaster anytime soon. SynthMaster is probably the closest synth to a swiss-army knife that tries to do everything. I don't think that's the direction Hive needs to go in. I'm just excited to get my hands on a really good subtractive synth that sounds great and has a good workflow that allows me to easily transfer the skills I'm learning from Syntorial to the sound design process. I guess my point is that Hive doesn't need to be everything to all people, and Massive definitely has its place...now if you didn't own either of them and are trying to decide between the two that's one thing but there's no real need to pit them against each other, they're both great synths.

Do you guys have any idea if you will include a Ring-mod in Hive? it will go well with the FM for those aggressive timbres :). Dubstep and other particularly aggressive styles notably make use of Ring-mod, not to mention Ring-mod is useful for drums and percussion.

There's more ideas than just that to really push Hive's abilities, especially for Dance music, but most of my other ideas don't involve adding extra knobs or buttons which you guys wanted to limit (and if you were to make it into an effect-slot, it would be easier), but FM/Sync/Ring, not to mention whatever comes in the third hexagon, are probably the most important ideas for pushing Hive's VA landscape.

The third hexagon: prog rock and beyond.
(Could be a great movie title :tu:)

In the latest Beta..The 'Hex is Gone'

A couple errors in the manual, there are two sections for Feedb on page 31, and on page 32 "common" is misspelled.

RICHARD F wrote:yes i prefer the old look too it was one of the main reasons i brought hive that and the sound . The knobs are really dark now . the old style knobs looked better imo please change back to the old design :} i love the futuristic, alien, look
I just noticed there is a gamma setting in the preferences, if stuff is too dark might want to try adjusting that.

Howard has put up a poll thread about that. Voting might help get the interface the way you like it.

I voted.

I noticed that for mapped midi controls adjusting the knob does not show the values in the status bar like it does if you adjust the controls using your mouse. Not a bug per se, but seems like something that ought to be added before coming out of beta. :hail:

Well-spotted, thanks. Fixed for the next beta.

Would love pan knobs for sub seperate. It feels horrible that sub pans with osc 1 or 2. I like the sub nice in center. Also a bypass fx would be nice for subs :)

I mentioned the "common" error on Fri 3rd April. There's another one:

Howard has done an excellent job creating the Hive User Guide, and I very much look forward to seeing the finished version. In the meantime, I found a couple of spelling errors, as follows:

p28 Reverb, "hangers" => "hangars"
p32 Compressor, "coomon" => "common"

If anyone experiences any issues with installing the latest version of Hive, I'll suggest the first thing to do would be a clean re-install. Remove the old versions first then install.
I had some strange sound, midi, and gui behavior with the latest version.
When I did a reinstall, all the problems went away, and everything worked fine again.

On a side note, I really enjoyed your presets. Some of my faves for Hive. :tu:
