Also I bet you could simulate a wavetable pretty well with the granular function by loading in a recording of a synth sweeping through a wavetable. Then sweeping through the audio with the granular.

I am sure importing your own tables will come down the line. No reason to be sniffy about it now that using your own samples is permitted.

They are probably just wary at first about how best to manage it (number of samples etc.. see the guidance on wavetable import for Serum).

I hear you. In this case I'd refrain from the upgrade, too.

But let me ask about the Serum updates. My account at xfer still offers v1.0. Did I miss something?

If you upgraded to Omni from Atmosphere it became NFR.
Am I reading this wrong? I think I'm in for Omnisphere 2 but does this raise the possibility that a new Omni 1 and grace period upgrade would be NFR from the outset? Surely not!?

does anyone in the Uk here have a spare time and space voucher they dont want?

You make it sound like I hate Omnisphere. I don't. It is one of my top 5 favorite synths and only the 5th synth I ever paid money for after downloading hundreds of free VSTs. In fact, these are the first 5 synths I ever purchased in order.

Synthmaster
ACE
Zebra 2
Serum
Omnisphere

For me to spend money on a synth, I had to really love it.

All the versions of Serum that have come out since I made that purchase have been free upgrades, and I've had that synth longer than Omnisphere. I don't think allowing a 1 year grace period would have killed them. That to me would have been fair.

So my objection to spending $250 after just buying this synth 7 months ago has nothing to do with the quality of the synth overall but the fact that I've had it all of 7 months.

That still takes nothing away from Omni 1 being one of my top 5 favorite synths.
i have been reading your posts for a few days now... one thing that does come to my attention is the fact that Omni 2 will be able to load samples... i cant imagine all the new third party sample sets that will be available Omni 2... you will be missing out on that... cant share patches with anyone that has Omni 2... another point... let say Omnisphere 1 is about 6 to 7 years old... if specstrasonic follows their own track record... Omni 3 will be out 2021/2... therefore... what would be the difference between upgrading today -vs- 3 to 4 years from now...

to be honest... i do not think this thread should be about "you" not purchasing Omni 2... we heard you the first time... how about letting us who are waiting for the release enjoy this time... instead of reading you brought Omni 1 7 months ago and not purchasing Omni 2... you talk of all the synths you own... well... i own Komplete ultimate 10... and there are a ton of synths in that package... but for me Omnisphere wins every time... that fact that it is multi-timbre and you can layer the sounds is more enticing than the synths in KU 10...

in closing... before you make your next post about not purchasing Omni 2... please keep in mind... WE KNOW ALREADY... let us users that are waiting for Omis 2 enjoy this time... instead of reading... I BROUGHT OMNI 1 7 MONTHS AGO... AND I AM NOT PURCHASING OMNI 2 UNTIL MORE FEATURES ARE ADDED... for us long time Omni users this update/upgrade appears to be exactly what the doctor order... if you do not feel like that... please do not rain on our parade... again... we know you are not updating/upgrade to Omni 2...

enjoy your day...

p.s. could you post some of your music... i would love to hear a piece or two... thanks in advance!!!

with all the updates Spectrasonics also gave us over the years, the splendid support so far, a VST which is already so old but still used in blockbuster productions etc. what do you expect more? omnisphere already has nearly all it wants to be. sure the granular options are not my enjoyment and dont seem to replace granular synths sadly.... i hope they will make it much better but otherwise i think the upgrade is worth it alone the new presets/samples where you would pay MUCH MUCH more when buying sample cds/releases alone....

Fair enough. I've said my peace. I'll leave it at that.

If you want to listen to some of the things I've done (very little in relation to how much music I've made over the years) here's a link to my Soundcloud page.

as a preset junkie... it appears that a ton of presets are used in your music... i think one of Omni main selling point is programming the synth... with that said... it may be cheaper/better for you to purchase 3 party sound libraries for Omnis 1 instead of the update/upgrade...

Actually, I program most of my own sounds. When I'm in a hurry and I know exactly what I want and know where it is, I'll use a preset. But for the most part, I do my own programming.

Not sure how you deduced that I use a ton of presets (not even sure what pieces you listened to) but that simply isn't the case, unless you just happened to listen to a piece where I happened to use presets.

Anyway, no, I don't use presets for the most part, which is why Omni 2's 2,000 new patches, or whatever number they are, don't interest me. In fact, I created my own library of 350 patches for Omni 1 that I have sold quite a few of.

So no, I don't use presets for the most part.

Maybe I'm just good at sound design.

** EDIT ** In fact, here is my Omni demo containing 50 of the 350 patches I designed.
