Is there a way to set your input's recording destination?

topic says it all. Would like to record to a designated folder on my external hard drive. Currently Tracktion records to the Mac OS folder inside the app itself.

When you create a new project, navigate and create a new folder where you want and title the project. That may mean scrolling back to the previous columns in the hierarchy etc. This is what I've always done and the new audio files are created in the same folder as the new project. I just opened a new project and tried it to be sure. It worked fine.
I also take a minute to name the edit something. If I don't have a song title, I make something up to give the idea some kind of identity.
If it's an existing project, try archiving it then selecting your new folder for the destination to unpack the archive into.
Sorry you had a bad time in the other topic - exporting. I wish I could help there but I've never any any problems exporting in Tracktion so it's impossible for me to diagnose what's going wrong. I think the advice for stripping everything away and troubleshooting one track at a time might help. I use the 16 bit option.

Well in mac OSX for some reason Tracktion saves the recorded audio from your input inside the actual Tracktion app iteself (cntrl click the actual Tracktion app and go show content/mac OS). I tried creating a folder for an edit but Tracktion still saves my recorded audio to its own destination. I am now just learing about archives......it is simple enough to create an archieve of the edit than to import all the needed audio files in one directory. Pretty cool concept.....sorta like Reason save as self contained song option.

I absolutely believe you but just am not getting the same results here. I'm on OS 10.2. When I create a new project and folder for it, the new audio files are saved there.
I'm wondering now if there is a preference on the settings page that I changed to make this happen? I'm going to make a guess here that you have the recording directory at default settings.
I'll look around some and recheck the help pages etc.
What version of OS X are you using?

10.3.4
The audio files from your input or the audio files that you render within Tracktion? I can render files to this folder but Tracktion saves input recording inside the app itself.

Input, Render, Export, everything.
I create project folders on a separate hard drive partition and all audio files are saved to their respective project folder on that partition.
I've searched the app folder as well. The only audio files there are the ones that were included with the mac download - fangbonus and funky plutonium.
I'll keep looking but this is kind of strange. There has to be a setting somewhere that controls this.
Update:
I just tried this on another machine with a fresh download of Tracktion. I'm still recording to the designated project folder with no problems. OS is 10.2 and I'm using the same disc partition.
Here are the steps I took:
Project page
click "create new project"
click "show details" triangle
scroll left to users folder
select and navigate to user documents
click "new folder" and title for song
type project name and save
select new edit from project page and retitle for song
open edit
click input one
deslect "treat as stereo pair"
drag to track one and press "r" for record
select newly recorded clip and rename (just to be clear)
minimize Tracktion and find newly recorded audio in project folder
Let me know how it turns out.
I also have "rename audio source clips" or something like that selected on the settings/misc page.

Wierd!
I figured it out! I guess this is a bug.......ok like I said before I always make a new folder for a new edit (cause I remeber in the past this is where all audio is recorded)......now here is the bug. If you click on input in an open edit and change the file name (ie so it is recorded as say "Guitar 1" than it records to inside of Tracktion (show package content/Mac OS).....however if you hit the "reset filename" button so the filename now say "%projectdir%/audio_%edit%_%track%_%date% it will save in the designated project directory. Not really a bug, I will simply just use the reset filename button so it saves to my project directory. just kinda wierd though.
edit: I think I deleted the end of my post before.....that why you could not understand me.....hope you understand now.

did you finish your thought? cos I'm attempting to replicate your bug on my powerbook and I'm confused in what you are trying to do. It records audio in the folder you tell it to... I'm confused, please explain what it is you are trying to do again.Aleatoric wrote:Wierd!

You know, I just read some stuff about 10.3.4 not being very stable and causing different problems. I bet you don't want to hear this but I'd suggest reinstalling the previous version 10.3.3?
I'm kind of conservative about system updates. Despite what others have said, jaguar is fast enough on my old powerbook. It's also very stable. I know the finder is a little faster in panther but support was dropped for 10.3 on the wallstreet. Ryan Stemple's xpostfacto will get panther on my book but why go to the trouble on such an older machine? I've also read that disc access is slightly slower in panther etc.
p.s. I'm also a little confused by your last post. Do you have a workaround now?

I did not finish typing in my prevouse post (or deleted the end by accident).....should make sense now. Yes I found a workaround so it saves in the project directory.
