Hive preview (April 1 update)

I'm currently having a strange problem with the modwheel control that could be a bug.
Whenever I move it with the mouse, it snaps back to zero when I let go. Currently using the latest versions of both Reaper and Hive, and this behavior didn't happen in the previous Hive beta.
I have no hardware controllers that could be affecting it, however I can change the modwheel value by sending it's midi cc in the piano roll or automating via another plugin (ReaControlMidi).
This does not happen with other plugins that have built-in modwheel control (Serum, Dune BE) so I believe this is a Hive-Specific issue.

Can confirm that it snaps back to 0 on my end too if I move the virtual modwheel with the mouse. I do have a controller hooked up and the virtual modwheel moves correctly and stays in position when I move the physical modwheel on my controller.AJYoung wrote:I'm currently having a strange problem with the modwheel control that could be a bug.

Yesterday Hive crashed for me for the first time. I will try to reproduce the error. After that I restarted the plugins in Bitwig but I lost the changes to the parameters. Only the first instance started again with one preset I selected the rest was lost.
I don't know if saving the project helps in this case but I lost 2 hours of tweaking the parameters.
I'm saying this that all of you know you that all of you know that you save the project more often.

Hi,
I've been demoing Hive for some time and finally pre ordered it two days ago.
Really looking forward to the final official version.
I think it has some killer sounds, but it's far from cpu friendly in it's current state. Atleast on my system (Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit sp1 + Pro Tools 11.3.1 HD).
Unfortunately many of the good sounding presets (expecially pluck synths and pads) I'm using are very cpu hungry. I have a pretty fast Intel 6core I7 cpu with SSD drives in my pc, but I'm getting a 20-30% incease in cpu usage with only 2-4 instrument tracks with Hive in Pro Tools HD 11.3.1.
Also when loading presets (more often than not) I get CPU spikes up to 100% in the red.
I'm expecting the official Hive version is going to be much more recource friendly.

Interesting. I bought Hive a short while after hearing demos. I'm on Windows 7 Pro 64 bit SP1 with Ableton Live 9 Suite. Live and my VSTs are running off my SSD drive C:, often with extra .wav files coming from my external USB drive.
My entry for the Hive competition consists of 18 tracks of Hive, almost all factory presets, plus a few sound effects on an audio track. Live mostly shows 16-28% CPU usage while playing this track, with an average of about 20%. There's one place it peaks out at about 39% if you start playing from there, at a place where 9 tracks are playing at once. At places where 11 tracks play at once, it peaks at 29%.
All tracks have only an EQ8 and a Utility (for gain control) on them. The SFX track goes through a send with a reverb on it. All Hive tracks use Hive's onboard audio effects, and they use them quite extensively, and there are no other effects except on the master track.
So my experience is that Hive is quite CPU-friendly. I've used Hive together with Sylenth1, Dune 2, and Ana on pieces of music with 12 or more tracks, and got similar lowish CPU hits. Maybe it's using it with Live that makes a difference, though I wouldn't have thought so.

I thought since Hive is all about Supersaws, it should definatly have included Diva's Roland JP oscillator with its features (and its dirt ofcourse). I love ability to FM (Cross) in Diva. With that you can easely make some nasty screetches. In general that oscillator behaviour is nice.
And by the way, if i play oscilator on MIDI keyboard with Phase set to Flow it plays alright. But if i play a midi pattern (using fl studio) every time i start playback of the clip the first note it hits it starts with a "clicK" like a restart. Is it normal? Its strange that when i hit on keyboard it does not "restart" and on midi clip it does.
Futhermore, strange behaviour sometimes happens with key lenghts (release you can say). It sometimes on the pattern plays first note longer then it suppose to.

Some say Pro Tools is not a good Daw for Virtual Instruments. My experience is devided.garryknight wrote:So my experience is that Hive is quite CPU-friendly. I have Nexus2 and it is very resource friendly. I also have Sylenth1 (through Bluecat Patchwork). Depending on wich presets I use both Sylenth1 and Hive are pretty resource hungry on my system.
I would love to be able to run 9 or more instrument tracks of Hive in Pro Tools, but can't in it's current state.
Nexus2 on the other hand I can easily run 15-20 tracks without problems.

A small feature request:
Ability to select wich Amp is being feeded by oscillators. Now by default its AMP Envelope 1 is assigned to Oscillator 1, same with oscillator 2. Why not to make it selectable? i want to make some deeper modulation with 3 Mod envelopes, but oscillator 2 amp envelope 2 is in the way to make it work (im using 4 oscillators).

Sorry to hear it. I had another thought after I last posted that maybe available RAM might have something to do with it, but I don't think VSTs use all that much per instance. Maybe 20-40 MB each?chrisdee wrote: I would love to be able to run 9 or more instrument tracks of Hive in Pro Tools, but can't in it's current state.

Hopefully the official release will fix my issues. Regardig memory i have 12 gb. I guess that should be enough even for Hive.garryknight wrote:Sorry to hear it. Btw is there someone who would want pan on sub osc? I think its ridiculous that when paning osc 1 that also the sub pans with it. i though sub was suppose to sit nice in center of the mix when doing bass sounds or something.
Also a fx bypass would be nice on sub osc! Why? Nice to have the low end free of distortion, reverb, or other fx of the bass patch=)
PLEASE URS !!

Good idea. I vote for that as long as it doesn't affect performance.ronnyrydgren wrote:Btw is there someone who would want pan on sub osc?
