Any comments on this one? I'm a bit tempted to buy Chris Hein Horns Pro but then again I probably don't need it (so please talk me out of it :-D).

I have Samplemodeling The Trumpet, NI Session Horns pro and Broadway Bigband full. How is Chris Hein Horns Pro compared to Mojo and thes other ones?

Post

Wouldn't say I'm an authority at all, but I have Chris Hein Horns Compact (bought second hand here), and it's great, with the caveat that it's a lot of work to make really ballsy and realistic horn section parts out of any library, and I'm not that good at it.

NI Session Horns pro is much easier, and if it sounds good to you, that's probably all you need. (I have the non-pro version in Komplete, and it's not in the same league as even the compact version of CH IMO, a bit synth-y, not a lot of balls. Also no solo stuff, which pro has.)

When I was looking for horn libs, another one I liked a lot was Big Fish Audio's First Call Horns; don't own it though.

Depends also on what you want to do. I'm so not Broadway, and not classical really, so I don't gravitate towards libs built for those things. (IMO Mojo and Fable Sounds are more show-tune than me, for instance.) For solo horns, I liked the Sample Modeling SWAM-driven libs, and Wallender WIVI, don't own either.

Libs at the level of CHHP aren't cheap, so if you're interested enough to drop that kind of money, this is probably as good a deal as it gets.

As for the Tone2 deal, remember Best Service tends to do a BOGOF. Last one was around Black Friday.

i haven't tried the Pro version (nor most of the other things you already have), but i have the compact version. I also have WIVI, but only the saxes & a couple brass. I wanted some additional brass for my EWI USB, and CHH-C works pretty well for this; many other sample libraries don't (though if they support expression properly, you would think they should). so for that particular purpose, the compact version is a pretty cheap way to get a lot of brass, and even cheaper now. (there was an even cheaper VSTBuzz discount on this a while back, on compact only, but i wouldn't expect to see that again...)

Sonivox is offering Eighty Eight for $49.99 ...
This sounds like a fantastic deal, list price is $149.99! This piano instrument looks quite powerful and sounds good too, at least from what I can tell watching the promo vids on Youtube... BUT, there seems to be hardly any reviews and/or forum discussions about this thing on the interwebs and that usually doesn't bode well. Is it worth buying I wonder??

Thanks for that information about the EWI USB. That's good to know ;-).
I have the Compact version and purchased it when VSTBuzz had that deal. I couldn't resist it. But now I'm tempted to upgrade (the crossgrade version s on sale as well). I haven't even used the compact library but couldn't resist for that price reduction.

Well, it's a very nice sounding piano, but I also like the combi sounds and layered presets with choirs and strings. Really nice. Definitely worth it. If you need a new keyboard controller from the likes of Alesis, Akai or M-Audio, you might see it included for free.

Are you sure the upgrade from CHH Compact to Pro is on sale now? I couldn't find it in the sale list, emailed Best Service, they said it's not. Or am I misunderstanding what you said?

That's not true. They have it. If you click on the full version CHH Pro and scroll down the crossgrades and upgrades are on sale too:
http://www.bestservice.de/en/chris_hein ... grade.html

But even better. The good old Uncle E. has it even cheaper with "FORUM" coupon code here: :-). And even though you are from US and do pay VAT I think it's cheaper for you.

$310 - including discount:
