Bitwig has a step sequencer as do all DAWs. Click the pencil tool and the click in the note lanes.

Im voted for NO. I think we don't really need to make a FL Studio clone options in Bitwig.
Bitwig has his unique solution to make music, this makes him special.
and I think, we can now make the beats even faster then in FL Studio, without step sequencer.
just look how Jolaff make it.

if you think about that..
cubase 7 / 7.5 has in FULL version...logic don't have, ableton has only with max for live in suite version,FL has something like note randomizer in piano roll but i don't know if has step sequencer...
so is not important for bitwig like other daws to focus priority on this simple device...this topic is useless by me

I never understood the need for step sequencers inside DAWs. The piano roll, and the DAW itself, are basically a superset of dedicated step sequencers. The only reason I can see to want one is that it's easy to store patterns and write pattern names into the timeline for easy editing later, but I would much rather have ghost/linked clips implemented rather than a step sequencer, since that solves everything.

I voted no, because the community will be making a million of these when the modular system comes out.
The devs need to focus on things that cant be done with the modular system, and because of said system, BW will get step sequencers either way.

Step sequencers can have some fun functionality... just one example, if each lane has its own # of steps and timing you can easily make complex polyrhythms...shadiradio wrote:I never understood the need for step sequencers inside DAWs. As a work around there is always this little plugin

It reports to work with windows and OSX, so the linux guys may be a little disappointed.

well
what happened to this then?
here i am dipping my toe in the Bitwig water
i use step sequencers a lot
mostly Max4Live ones cos its difficult/impossible(?) to do some things in Reaktor
(like a proper skip note)
my particular joy is Roland M-185 type sequencers
anyway
NO BLOODY STEP SEQUENCER!!!!
then i found this thread from ages ago
and no, a piano roll won't do for me
cos i don't want to think it up before
i want to find it....
i can't play live with Bitwig without step sequencers
and something like B-Step adds £30/$45/eu41 to the price
so what do you say guys from Bitwig?
