Fully understand your downsizing. :tu:

Can't think of any use of such speeds besides in an industrial/medical (etc) environment.

Was curious though and therefore checked the site of your ISP.

My girlfriend changed providers about 3 months back. I didn't bother asking her about the details, I assumed it was similar to our old speed which was about 10mbs. So one day I was downloading some huge game from Steam, it was like 20gb or something and before I realised what was happening it was completed, I was like WTF? It took less than a minute and it only took that long because my harddrive couldn't write the data fast enough. :hihi:

:D

"Stories of quantum mechanics" for us copper cable guys in Germany.

I run two different ISPs from three different location/devices.
Satellite, MIFI, FIOS. Each advertised 50mbps, 20mbps, 100mbps respectively.
Speed tests on each show roughly 85-90% of those advertised speeds.
Reality is much different.

Respectively, the top speeds for each have been 2mbps, 4mbps, 12mbps.
Recent court rulings have said the practice for ISPs to 'throttle' certain areas is illegal.
No change has been noted and we now hear the ISPs are appealing that decision.

And the first two have limits on how much I'm allowed to download in a month, which puts any such update of the discussed size out of question.
If you're getting any better speeds than those, you might want to count yourself lucky.

Good luck for all of you.

Probably still faster than American internet...

If you don't live in a city here you can be stuck with awful speeds. Luckly I live in a city and get an 100/20 connection :D

My dad who lives in Austin just got Google fiber though :x

I'm actually not going to upgrade right away, I'm very deep into a guitar oriented music project (mostly) right now, but can't wait to see what you all think of it, the sounds you make (or use). Probably June or July for me. Lovin RMX, Trillian and Omnisphere 1

So... a few hours to go. After 18 days without a free day a long weekend is waiting (3 days). Perfect to try out Omnisphere 2. The bad thing i think it will took 1-2 whole days to download the beast. I'm living at the end of the net
But maybe i can finish now rating all my Omnisphere 1 patches (just have rated about 2/3 of them).

Oh well, I guess it wasn't CET. It's 8 in the morning here and no omni 2 for 10 hours
.....but patience is a virtue :tu:

Okay, so I was curious to see what my download speed is.

Image

However, I am paying around 100 dollars for 100mb/s a second!!!!! What is up with this? Why am I paying so much and not getting what I paid for? Are they throttling me? This is legal< when I'm paying specifically for high speeds? So I pay a lot of money for high speeds for an exact amount of 100mbs and the guy on the phone said explicitely I'd have 100mbs, yet I'm not getting what I paid for? Do I have to buy a seperate modem?

what you pay for is a connection of 100 megabit/s. megabit does not equal megabyte. in fact one byte is around 8 bit so your speed test makes perfect sense.
cheers

Why are you certain this is the case? As seen in the image it says around 10 Mb/s. This Mb/s is the exact same system the company advertises which says I should get 100 Mb/s, yet I'm only getting 10 Mb/s...
