Similar problem over here: I bought the upgrade some days ago via a retailer and the serial I got doesn't work at the moment. It looks like they missed to update their register-routine before getting the product online for sale.

I cannot fathom why they were not smart enough to do, VIP users first, etc., etc. By splitting it up we wouldn't be having these ridiculous issues.
