merge midi clips

Greetings!

Is there a simple way to select multiple midi clips on a given track and merge them? I thought this was pretty fundamental, but I don't see it anywhere.

To clarify, here's what I'm trying to do:

I sketched out a rough drum track to a song using step sequencer clips. Having done that, I selected them all and tried to render them to midi. The result of this is hard to describe, but basically a pile of midi clips at the end of the edit, with all the old step clips remaining as they were.

I want the step clips to magically morph into midi clips, and then I want to merge all the midi clips together into 1 big clip.

I guess what I'm really looking for here is the ability to render step clips to midi in place of (or on top of) the original clip. As it is, they render, with the rendered midi's piling up at the beginning of the edit. Looks like I'm not using step clips as they were intended to be used, in any case.

That would be pretty cool.

The render to midi sounds like a bug. Afaik it used to work before. Anyway when you have the midi clips (not the step seq clips), select them and there is an option 'merge midi clips' in the properties panel.

There might be some issue with implementing a "Merge Step Clips to MIDI and replace them" related to the channel assignments. Step clips can have each channel assigned to different instruments. I am not sure how that would translate directly to a MIDI clip.

There does seem to be a sort of bug where step clips rendered to MIDI pile up at the beginning of the edit.

Thanks guys, the clips currently get inserted at the cursor position. I'll fix that now so they appear in the place of the step clip.
Then, as Frank said you can use the "Merge MIDI clips" button to combine them into a single clip.

Sounds good. Thanks all! As a user of version 1 way back when, it's nice to be back in Tracktion land again.
