Omnisphere 2 is here! (yes, it's really here!)

I just wanted to chime in and say that overall I think this update is really nice. I'm a shade disappointed that the wavetable functionality isn't more like Zebra's, but the sheer number of waves is so nice, I'll forgive it. From Eric's language in the preview video, it did seem like you could choose two waveforms and morph between them. While it's pretty much just a standard wavetable engine, the waves sound great and the variety is awesome.
The new presets, including the vilified EDM patches, sound really good to me and even if you don't like the EDM styles of patches, you'd be surprised at how those patches make for great jumping off points to your own creations.
The new interface... it talking a bit of getting used to. One thing I think they could have done is had dual oscs per layer. Sometimes having the dual layer paradigm is a little clumsy especially when you're just trying to put together a fairly simple sound. But, I guess the point of Omnisphere has never been to put together simple sounds.
Overall, great upgrade! Totally worth it!

I gotta say, I only have one annoyance with Omni2 and it's that I don't like having the browser on the left side (same goes for Strobe2). I don't really use the browser a lot, since I'm not a big preset surfer, but when I do use it, my brain expects/wants it to be on the right. I really can't explain why, but being on the left feels like it's in my way, whereas being on the right feels like it's out of the way. Ultimately, it's not a big deal at all, though, and I'll probably get used to it.zerocrossing wrote: The new interface... it talking a bit of getting used to.
Yeah, I totally agree with that...zerocrossing wrote:One thing I think they could have done is had dual oscs per layer. Sometimes having the dual layer paradigm is a little clumsy especially when you're just trying to put together a fairly simple sound.

Are you a lefty who had indentations on his writing hand from using a spiral notebook in school? (I am).cryophonik wrote:

I'm not far along in my auditioning yet, but I agree somewhat. Some of what I have heard so far hasn't been as abrasive as what I might have been expecting.BBFG# wrote:The "vilified EDM" patches...
I think the biggest mistake is labeling them as EDM specific.
Some could be just as, or more, usable in other genres as well.

Well, it was a good theory anyway.cryophonik wrote:Nope, I'm a righty in everything except hockey and politics.rustman wrote:Are you a lefty who had indentations on his writing hand from using a spiral notebook in school? (I am).

The whole EDM thing is kinda funny - I remember loads on KVR saying a few years ago that Omni was rubbish cos it couldn't do EDM. Now foilks are saying "oh no, it can do EDM"...
It seems a fair name for it too. EDM - electronic dance music - it's a pretty broad church. There's aggressive in there, but a ton of stuff that isn't as well.
And once again to keep it in perspective - the 800ish EDM patches form about 1/3 of the new stuff, or 1/10th of the entire library.

Which sounds ludicrous anyway considering Atmosphere was once a staple in EDM (and the numerous classic synth waveforms it shipped with even then).noiseboyuk wrote:The whole EDM thing is kinda funny - I remember loads on KVR saying a few years ago that Omni was rubbish cos it couldn't do EDM.

Yes, how dare you find fault in noiseboyuk's new boyfriend... Jesus. I would regard somebody who obsesses about a VST as much as you do as 'not having a life', for god's sake... you don't have to police every Omnisphere thread and leap to its defence every time there is the slightest criticism of it...noiseboyuk wrote:Blimey you do run into a lot of problems, eh?! The "old" v1 patches are loading fast as before in Omni v1.
Is this normal? Is there a fix?

I'm curious, are you 4 years old or 5? Can't quite decide.basslinemaster wrote:Yes, how dare you find fault in noiseboyuk's new boyfriend... Jesus. FWIW I've made plenty of criticisms here of Omni 2 (a whole thread-full on another forum, actually). Bladerunner mentioned an issue and it wasn't something I encountered, all normal thread stuff.
Time for your nap, perhaps.

Since someone did mention it, I too have noticed that loading speeds on Omni 2 seem to be a little slower than Omni 1. I'm sure that this will be rectified soon in an update.

I can't say I've noticed any slow load times either. I thought the update made loading faster because of the new Kontakt like background loading?

Load times are good for me, seems the same as V.1. On Mac / Yosemite, 16gig RAM.

Yes they are the same for me too, for patches I have loaded before in Omni 1, I think the difference may be just because some of the Omni 2 patches are themselves larger.
