I use it rarely when I just need a couple of percussion hits or something simple. I think I would use it more if it had a few more features.

You guys are mad scientists, I'm not even gonna try to guess what you came up with this time.

I've had a look at the internal sampler and found out that it does not do what I need, and probably never will. So I bought a 'real' sampler and never looked back. 8)

In my eyes, the must-have features of a sampler are (a) to correctly import sample libraries from all important formats, (b) to play them back correctly even if they contain stuff like function keys, loops and/or Note-off samples, and even if they are much bigger than my main memory, and (c) to let me easily edit all relevant parameters of those libraries.

Tracktion's internal sampler contains none of these features, and all of them are a huge task to implement. So I guess they will never be there. Unfortunately, there is no sampler available which is really good in my opinion. Especially, there is none with a really good user interface like Tracktion. I bought VSampler in the end because it performs best in the aforementioned disciplines.

I'm curious anyway what you will come up with. ;-)

Hey Rack Bitz,

I'm intrigued....

I tried out the sampler when I got T and was initially excited. Then I realised that for it to be useful for me it would need the following features

1. multi outs - even 4 mono outs would do it

2. a choke feature (for hi hats etc)

3. some kind of x-fading or layering facility.

Then I could use it as a simple drum sample player, and build up my own bass/synth patches.

However, I wouldn't want it to get complex. What I love about tracktion is it's simplicity and lack of bells and whistles.

Up till then I'm using vienna2.3, sfz, sr202 and FLStudio for the various bits I need - I'd love to be able to set some presets up in the T sampler and work with that only - one stop solution!!!

Hey BTW any news on that TF Mixer - you may remember that I beta-d it, only to find that it maxed out my cpu (no other plug ins have done that)? I left feedback on the TF forum.

cheers

Rack Bitz,

have you ever contacted the VSampler deveopers about your worries? I think that's the great thing about software like Tracktion or VSampler which is produced by small teams or even single programmers. You can actually talk to the people, and they will gladly fix things according to your concerns as long as it's consistent with their philosophy.

After some talk with maz, I found that he agrees with me on most user interface issues (although I couldn't convince him that Tracktion is great - I guess he's already seen and used too much conventional software  ). The current beta in my eyes just needs a few more places where resizing is allowed, and then it's pretty much usable. And RC1 will probably come out pretty soon.

I know I'm leaving the subject now :) but there are even places where Tracktion can learn from VSampler. For example, in the case of overdrive, the VSampler meters don't just show eternal red, but they also show the exact amount of dB by which you must reduce the signal to fix things. Pretty cool - hope Jules will do that, too, some day. :)

I use the sampler pretty frequently myself, but I tend to use it more like I used samples when I Modplug Tracker was my main host. I've never really had much use for a 'proper' sampler, since I'm more interested in strange little synthesizer sounds and really messed up samples (I find a combination of extreme pitch-shifting with the sampler, and judicious use of Tracktion's weird pitch-shift/time stretch does a pretty good job there, along with a pile of effects ).

I generally use audio clips for simple percussive elements. Seems easier, plus I love T's audio handling.
Every day takes figuring out all over again how to f#ckin’ live.

Post

I use reason's nnxt and I can't see how T's sampler could ever compare. I also have some libraries for it, so the new sampler would have to be able to import other formats for me to find it useful.

Post

uum
seems like everybody wants something just a little too complicated
thats something we cant acheive just by adding things to the sampler
sorry guys i thought people would be intersted in something quite simple but usable
theres no way we can toucj nnxt or vsampler
so sorry guys
simon every post you made at TF has been answered
one last time
i wont answer any questions here about the TF mixer
go to its forum at TF :) buuuuut
simon you said the cpu was maxing out when you autoconnect the mixer inside a rack
please go to the tf mixer forum and leave me a post telling me why you dont just use the rack preset we supplied
cheers

oh slight ps

simon were currently sorting out the cutdown version of the mixer you asked for :)
no eq 1 bus and so on
even though these features turn off in the original tf mixer
on some systems they can still take a little cpu
cheers

oh but non of that has anything to do with your cpu maxing out
its a bug we found in tracktion
get over to the tf forums and i'll tell ya all about it

I use it for drums on the Mac version... Just created kits with BDs, snares and HH and FX hits... solves the multi-out problem... Solved the dropped note bug too by making loops that are at leasst 3 bars long first! But the editing within clips is still freaking me out... and making it dificult to quickly do drum variations... Tracktion needs a real Piano Roll bad...
