That it is. Perhaps even too broad in a sense of genre.
I'm finding the rub is in the 'D'.
Just can't call drug induced fits dance. ;)

I feel they should call the library something more like, "Electronica".
(Even less definitive of genre and more definitive of source.)

Load times are better for me too in Omni 2. It does take slightly longer to load a new instance of Omni but I am scrolling through patches pretty much instantly with default settings on my 840 Pro SSD. The old streaming bug where an offline render would outpace Omni's ability to load the sample into memory is absent in V2 for me so far, thank god :)

Yeah, that's pretty much my experience. Quite a bit slower to load an instance, but quicker to play the larger patches with this new loading thing. Navigating around the columns is more sluggish though, about 1/2 a second to switch attributes which feels a little slower. Probably to do with the massive database now....

If I update to Omni 2 it is not going to break my previous projects that use Omni 1 is it?

Everything normal here for me except occasional bpm delay timing issues, which a quick jog seems to fix. I've seen one or two reports about arpeggiator issues, but I've not found that.

FYI to all, techshop back up and running now, you should be able to upgrade normally, it seems.

Authorization problem.
Anyone else have it? I don't remember ever getting the splash screen to give me an authorization challenge code.

I remember reading somewhere that the 64 bit version partly uses streaming when loading patches and the 32 bit version don't. So 64 bit = faster loading times. 32 bit = old loading times.

I finally got Omni2 working yesterday.

My first installation was a nightmare: lots of error messages, STEAM folder that could not be found, and issues with the protection on the programdata/spectrasonics folder.

After a few days of radio silence, the tech support replied to me yesterday.
It seems that the people having problems with the installation are the ones not using an English version of Windows... Mine is French.

The patch procedure sent was a bit long and complicated, but it finally worked. I also had to download and install a newer version of the Omnisphere software (one that is not yet officially posted).

But hey, it works now!
I only had time to parse through a few new patches before I got inspired by one of them and started to compose something.

Localised versions of Windows can have different names for Program Files and possibly Programdata folders. It's possible that was the cause of the problems, although the use of environment variables should avoid that problem generally.

It's the part of the upgrade I'm the least happy about.
I'm sure that an email will clear it up to get a new download code so I wouldn't worry too much about it.
I just noticed on the Techshop today if you need to re-download the Omni 2 upgrade it costs you $10. That's pretty disappointing.

We're being charged about $0.54 per GB. Contrast this to the price of transfers from, say, Amazon S3 tiered pricing:
First 1 GB / month $0.000 per GB
Up to 10 TB / month $0.090 per GB
Next 40 TB / month $0.085 per GB
Next 100 TB / month $0.070 per GB
Next 350 TB / month $0.050 per GB
And we don't even get one extra download. That pricing is about 10x their cost on a product we already purchased. It costs them somewhere around 10 cents to a dollar if someone re-downloads.

Do you know what it cost for them to send you the DVD's via mail if you lost them during V1 for reference?

EDIT:

Misread pricing

We're not talking physical media here. We're talking bits that cost fraction of a penny to move around.
The cost on Amazon S3 base tier to re-download 70GB
It doesn't say re-downloading of Omnisphere 2, just the upgrade. That comes in at around 18.5GB - let's call it 20GB for this discussion and I'll use the worst cost rate on the chart at $0.090 per GB. That comes out to $1.80. I doubt Spectra pays anywhere near that price per download.
seems pretty reasonable considering implementing a download system does take time to do correctly.
A system I already paid them to implement when I purchase the upgrade.

I don't have to pay Steam every time I re-download a game. I didn't have to pay Camel Audio when I'd re-download gigabytes of data. I don't have to pay propellerheads to download the latest copy of Reason at >1.2GB. I don't have to pay Live when I download the entire Live Suite. Nothing about this is "reasonable" to us as the consumer in my opinion.

EDIT: I might be wrong about it being only for the upgrade. If it is the 70GB installer then that is more fair. However, I'd still like to see at least one extra download of the upgrade for those that purchased it and not be charged.

Woops, I mixed up the cost of S3 storage with the cost of S3 bandwidth.

Why do you think Spectra doesn't pay close to that price though? They are not a huge player in the scale of things data wise so I doubt they are getting huge price cuts from their CDN. They would be crazy to use a bandwidth subsidized dedicated server solution around the time of the initial release because there is no way that could scale like a global CDN can.

Why do you need to download again already, did it not complete or something? Surely they would only charge for a redownload if it was successful the first time?
